There's an Interstate in a motorcycle salvage yard about 30 miles from me.  If my memory serves me correctly, the speaker portions of the fairing were intact.

I could check on it if you'd like.

Hi I would forget the factory speakers and do an up-grade . I installed front and back with Polk Audio DB501. A night and day difference over stock. Well worth the money. Here are install instructions. Took me about 2 hours. http://forums.delphiforums.com/valkyrie/messages?msg=12890.1

I think the speakers have an odd impedance (ac resistance) like 3.9 ohms(?). What are your suggested replacements rated at?

4 ohms would work fine i think the oem are 3.2 most after market speakers have too big of a magnet i hope the polks seal up.. ok i need a set too for the wifes i.s
after looking at the link ill keep looking until i ger a better match i am not in to carving out the speaker boxes no good seal there

you are not cutting into you speaker boxes.
Yes you will have to cut up you original speaker.
 But they are trash anyway.

+1 on the Polk DB501s.  I installed both front and rear and sound quality is ten times better than the stock speakers.   cooldude

I have a set of speakers from Big Bike about $70 and they screw in the same factory holes. I think the rear speakers from a Goldwing will also fit.

Diamond  D342i Coax should be a drop in fit for the front.

The front speakers are 4.5", correct?

3fan4life, I have two fairing speakers (original) that were removed when the bike had less than 1500 miles on it.  Also have two rear speakers (Big Bike) with even less time on them.  They are packed away nice and neat and are yours for the asking.  I upgraded speakers and it did not help the music a bit.  I had other problems which I have rectified with Kennedy Tech products & a Garman Zumo...JTL  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Hey Chrome...

Did you get yours up here in Canada, or did you have to order them in the U.S.? If in Canada, where did you get them?

Hi Baloo I ordered mine thru Crutchfield Canada which is a division of an American firm. They are at http://www.crutchfield.ca/. The delivery was very fast and I was happy to deal with them. The speakers are in the 5" car speaker section http://www.crutchfield.ca/5_Speakers_s/305050.htm
I waited ordering from them till they had one of their extra good sales on. Right now ,one pair of speakers is 99.99 plus shipping but once in awhile they will offer a second set of speakers for 49.99 and you then you are able to get  their offer for free shipping on orders over 129$.Made sense to me to spend the bit extra to get the second for next to nothing.I am putting this set in my second I/S as well this week.

Thanks for the info, Adrian. I'm looking to upgrade in a near future... Did it make a big improvement on the sound over the OEM's? Also, are the front and rear the same model? Thanks again!

Hi Baloo Yes it did make a big improvement over the orginal speakers. Having 2 I/S's,one with stock and the other with Polks,I can do an A/B test between the two. Polks are both deeper and brighter. I tend now to listen to my MP3 player thru the speakers rather than the headsets and even do that at highway speeds too. Here are the instructions to do the install compliments of the VRF. http://forums.delphiforums.com/valkyrie/messages?msg=12890.1  The front and rears use the same 5" speaker from Polk.
