I've never been a fan of Dunlops. A friend had a 6" chunk come off a rear on the Hiway with his wife aboard going 75. We were very lucky that day. I didn't know Goodyear made Dunlops. Nor that Sumitomo bought Goodyears plant.

Everyone has their opinion. I have ridden dunlops for 20 years and never had problem one, and have had great mileage out of them. To each their own.

I've worn out multiple copies of every bike tire that fits our bikes - and several darkside tires. Except a couple I guess - Shinkos comes to mind. I've pretty much arrived at Batlax fronts and Austone rears (dbl darkside) and have no plans to change unless a good reason comes along. BTW I've had no disastrous failures with any of them. Just differences in wear and noise mostly - and some adhesion variance. Some handling differences mostly due to size changes.

And I bet if you did some research, you could find at least one incident with every brand of tire. Made by humans,, mistakes made.

Still on topic, pretty much. I just changed from a Goodyear/rich (can't remember) full car tire to an Austone. I like the feel, the maneuvering etc, but I do miss the more stable, low-speed in traffic kind of handling I got with the wider tire.

In reading the article, one has to question why the 404's blew out. the last one talks about cracks in the sidewalls. Sounds like a old tire that had not been replaced due to age.
The rep from Goodyear also mentioned that tires in the wrecks caused by blow outs were caused by either under or over inflated tires or over weighted bikes. Not sure who is right on this.
I had/have a D404f tire on my Valk. Have wore out 4 of them in the last several years. No problems with any on them. though one did seem to lose more pressure than the rest. Not sure if it was the tire or something in the bead. Only about 2lbs. per week, so it wasn't a real problem as I check tires every time I go for a ride. The one I have on now as been keeping them same pressure for over a month.. With our roads around here, I get about 12K out of them.

For me,grip is paramount. I've never had a set of dunflops that I felt confident on, especially in the wet!

I was in the tire business for 18 years. They are the most abused and most blamed for anything that has to do with a vehicle Its not rocket science to investigate and figure out what happened to a tire, however in the consumers eyes it is the tire no matter what.
Been running elite 3 and 4 dunlops for years and love em

I always figured Honda knows the best tire for their motorcycles so I have always run Dunlops that came on it. I used to run high speeds a lot and they have been incident free and stay well balanced. Pushing 90,000 miles tire event free. Ill stay with them.

Really.....it has nothing to do with supply cost for millions of bikes....? They were the cheapest supplier so they got the contract, that is all.

The difference was instantly noticeable. I will never go back to a dunlop bias tire. I cannot comment on the radials as I have zero experience with them. Try another tire, there are some great options that stick like mad!!!

This is an interesting statement with credibility due to your extensive service. I have read reviews after reviews on tires and my take is that Dunlops do get blamed and criticized more than any other tire, maybe by a long shot. My good friend who owns a mostly Harley repair shop just down the road swears by Dunlops and keeps putting 404 and 402 on them. I myself have had really good success with shinkos on several bikes, but I am far from an expert.

After reading the article I posted it to get the info out there. I emailed this link to a friend who rides a HD as do a lot of his friends. I was more concerned with the safety of my friend and the other guys I met thru him and hoped those reading the article would do the same. I know from the article it seems like there really isn’t too much info one way or another to make a real solid decision but I thought it’s better to share the info and let anyone who may ride on this specific tire make their own decision on what to do.
