Any day that you ride is a good day!

Moneta, VA

« on: May 18, 2018, 06:29:04 AM »

Here are the self guided rides that I've worked up (so far).

I was planning on waiting until I had everything finished before I posted this, but my laptop is acting like it might die soon and I didn't want to take a chance on them getting lost.

All of them are set up as a loop ride, most of them parallel I-81, US 460 or another route that will allow for quicker return to Roanoke if you should need it.

Most were laid out in the direction that they were because I felt that the view was better from that direction or I prefer to attack a particular mountain from that direction.

Any of them can be ridden in reverse and still be a very enjoyable ride.

I have had some problem with Google maps changing the route from what I had planned to whatever it wanted.

Mostly it seems to want to put you back on the interstate.

If anyone sees this let me know and I will attempt to correct it.

I will have some hard copies available at Inzane for people to use.

Good job Mark.   cooldude

I have the same (GD) problem with map sites.  You try to do point to point to point, and at some point, it just takes over and puts you back on main roads and freeways.  Or you drag and drop, and it decides to add big loops to nowhere.  Stop it!!!!   tickedoff

I think I'm just going to follow you around.  I'm a good number two man (as long as I keep up with the fiber).

Since you put in all that hard work to publish these, the routes can no longer be called
 “self-guided”, can they?  coolsmiley

Good job, Mark!

You can take the rest of the week off.  cooldude

Thank you for all the work you put into this.

Unfortunately there won't be enough time to do them all in a week.

Just have to see the area again. cooldude

I've redone a couple of the routes because of Chip and Seal (READ LOOSE GRAVEL) on the BRP.

The affected area is between MM 121 and MM 136

Thanks.   cooldude

Mark, that appears to be where the BRP, straight South of Roanoke, crosses US 220 (mile marker 121), south on BRP to Calloway Rd (right next to US 221) (mile marker 136).

Interactive map.

That's almost like asking a Father to decide which of his children that he loves the most.

There are many factors to be considered about each ride.

The amount of time that you have to dedicate to a ride is the first thing to consider.

Then do you want mountains or is points of interests more important?

My intent is to have some description of each ride included in the printed copies.

Find me at Inzane and I can help you pick the route that best suits your interests. (I'll be helping with early bird registration on Sun).

I have to work on Monday but will be at the hotel after 4pm.
