Had today off and figured I better start getting stuff done on the bike. Got the truck tire mounted, new dampers, greased the rear pumpkin, and new gear oil. Had an issue with the driveshaft o-ring. When I removed the shaft it had come loose and slid up the shaft some how. A lot of the grease in the pinion had slung out into the swingarm. The pinion was definitely drier than normal but everything seems to be fine. I started to get a little concerned when I cleaned the pinion cup up though. I didn’t remember the teeth being ground down back in the bottom of the cup. Evidently my memory is failing me along with my back. After I got everything done I needed some food, so I made a test ride to El Pollo Loco. As I was walking in I saw my reflection in the glass. I was walking like a hunched over old man. The truck tire felt great. I’ll need some more miles to tell for sure but I think it’s going to be good. Tuesday I’ll get a new front mounted and brake pads.

Been doing some maintenance myself.

It's nice to be able to have something to blame my infirmaries on.

But, the truth is that numerous aches and pains are pretty much an everyday thing.  Evil

They are. I'm going to have break down when I get back from Inzane and our trip to Alaska and buy a lift. I'm not getting any spryer.  Smiley

Meathead, I sure hope you installed a new oil seal on the drive shaft. Merely sliding the old one back in place will surely guarantee a repeat performance.  It slipped off because it is warn out.

Sadly I put it back on. It's only got 40k on it. And it looks like new. I'll get one ordered for the next change. I only have a few more days off before the trip. If I get it in time before the trip, I'll put it on. Thanks.  cooldude

John, 60 years old I would say the same.

Another thing to look forward to is teeth become brittle.   I'm going in for the second time to get another permanently busted tooth extracted. I used to say that the trick is to run out of money at the same time that you die. Now it seems that the same thing applies to teeth, LOL.

Oh well, at 90 I'm still here and driving the Miata.  I can still fold myself into it so all is not bad.

As I was walking in I saw my reflection in the glass. I was walking like a hunched over old man.

Heh, heh, heh... I had that rude awakening at about 39 while still living in So Cal. Still see it clearly; lawn freshly mowed & edged, hedges trimmed, sprinkler head cut-outs well manicured. All clippings cleaned up, heading into the house for a cold one when I see someone's reflection approaching in my glass/screen door. He was wearing a straw hat being out in that California Sun, he too was partially hunched over, not fully upright from all that bending over. I knew it couldn't be me because this guy looked like he had a good 25-30 years on me.  Embarrassed

I only got a couple years on you but I know for some of us, it only gets worse from here.  Undecided

ALL and I mean ALL our misdeeds and excesses do indeed catch up with us. And I've found out my bill was due about the time I hit the late 50s early 60s. While I can still git down and service my Phatt Ghurl I cain't git down fast as I used ta was and gittin back up gits a bit "interesting" at times.  2funny NOT complainin cuz the pain tells me I iz still alive!  cooldude Iffin yer pain free yer either on Really GOOD drugs or yer dead. I can deal with the pain. RIDE SAFE.

Grin Gary that reminds me of an incident many years ago. We were having a store Christmas party at a venue with a bunch of pane glass windows. As it was night all the lighting made the windows reflect back. Some time during the night after more than a few drinks I looked over and saw some bald guy. I couldn’t think of who this was at our party. Then it finally dawned on me, I was the bald guy. My denial of being bald ended there at the young age of 35.  Grin

Just like a "joke" I recently read: Gentleman is leaving the hospital after having a few tests on his newly bum knee.  As he approaches the automatic sliding doors to the parking lot he sees an older guy, with a cane, approaching the entrance.  Being the gentleman that he always is, he steps aside before he hits the automatic foot-pad that opens the door, so as not to confuse or alarm the older man.  The door never opens.    ???

Reminds me of the 2 guys sitting at a bar and one says to the other "Look at those 2 old farts sitting over there drinking. They look like they are about to keel over" The other guy says, "that's a mirror dipshit"

Got the new seal in the mail yesterday, installed today. All was well with the old one. I must have bumped it off before or something. But now I have peace of mind if I ride into a frog choker on the way to Virginia. Thanks again Jeff  cooldude

Everyone may be different, but for me, working all bent over, or on hands and knees and especially up and down all day is the killer.  If I can stand up and work, I'm good all day (except sore feet).  The bending and stooping and crawling around (like on the bike, even with a lift) is what gets me walking around like a lower primate.

Damn, I look just like that.  Installed a new rear tire today and it almost killed me.  Laying down now to take the pressure off and when I get up and move the wrong way it takes my breath away and locks me up where I stand.

I think this may be the last time I do it myself...hate to even think of that.  If I can move in the morning I’m going to replace the steering stem bearings and rebuild the front forks.  All the work I’ve done should put me in good stead for the next 20 years (bike turned 20 years old in May) which I bought new off the showroom floor.  At that point it will be my widow’s problem...or her next husband’s.

C'mon guys....really? I'm 80 and still do my own maintenance on the Valk, including pulling the rear end down for service. Next project will be pulling my HD fairing so I can get at the forks. I plan to pull them for a check up and possible rebuild, then new oil once installed. It will create an unusual event in that I'll have to finally use my bike jack to raise the front enough to pull the front wheel. Haven't use a jack for a few years....since the last fork oil change. Sure, I get a little stiff in a couple places from doing such stuff but don't let it stop me. As for walking like an old man....I already do.  Grin
