Had two bad float valve needles causing the #2 and #5 to flood and hydrolock when parked. Thankfully I did not try and start the bike because I saw a huge puddle of fuel on the ground under the overflows.

Quick recap. '99 I/S with 35k miles. Bike sat for two years. after owner died.Tore carbs down completely cleaned and reworked. Bike fired up as soon as the fuel hit the carbs but then2 I get smoke from all six piggies. I got an initial burst of fuel from the overflow but that stopped after about thirty seconds. The Pilot Screws are at 2 1/4 turns out which is spec for Interstates.

What I am hoping to hear is something like "it'll burn off....that's just the old crap burning out of the motor". But rainbows and unicorns aren't reality. If you have torn down one of these bikes and had a similar situation that was able to be corrected, I would love to hear from you. I know all of the things it COULD be. I am interested in hearing what is WAS on your bike. Thanks

Check crankcase to be sure not contaminated with fuel, or change oil.
Run it.

Just run it for a while and see if it clears up.  I redid a 97 once that had sat for 4 years and it smoked initially when I finished rebuilding the carbs.  Went away after a few good rides.

Good suggestion.  Not enough air means running rich, which can produce black smoke.

rugguy, what colour is the smoke, and what does it smell like?  Coolant (head gasket leak), burning oil, and over-rich fuel mixture all produce different smells and colours in the exhaust.
