I am a road trip and I lost power while going up a hill on a freeway. It was like when you are almost out of fuel and have to change to reserve. I was at about 3800RPM. The bike lost power but the was able to maintain 50 mph. Once I got to the top of the hill I kept the RPMs under 3000 at there was no more loss of power. Later on when I accelerated hard up a hill the engine died. I was able to restart the engine and kept it under 3000RPM and it did not lose power again.

We are thinking it could be a clogged fuel screen?

It is a 2000 Interstate. Thoughts??

Pinched vent hose from under the tank. Issue sounds like it's repeatable for you.

Spare key? Open the cape. No spare, open cape, and place a straw into the tank, and close cape. This should break the gas cape seal, allowing air in.

If problem goes away, then issue with the vent hose. Most common is a pinched/crushed hose.

Sounds like lose of fuel flow, to keep up with the bikes need. There shouldn't be any fuel filter or addition on the fuel hose. From the petcock to the carbs.

And a Hello. New to the forum? In BC or WA? Maybe add your location in your profile, might get some local help.

I've heard of a similar problem that turned out to be a cracked vacuum line that operates the petcock. The cracked line would not supply enough vacuum to open the petcock  to supply enough fuel at higher speeds.

Hopefully it is just #6 vacuum line. However, that was the same symptoms when my OE fuel valve died. I re built once, but it messed up a year later so now both mine have Pingels.

Possibly kinked vent line. Possibly needs petcock rebuild (cover set). Possibly bad vacuum line to petcock. And last but not least, possibly kinked fuel line when warm. (It happened to me once)

petcock diaphragm develops small holes over time thereby leaking vacuum resulting in partially closed valve.  get a rebuild kit either honda  or K&L.   I put a snubber in my vacuum line to reduce the hard pulsations during shifts on the diaphragm. this was at 15k miles now at 58k.

Out of curiosity, what did you use?

Restrictor, large(r) diameter vacuum  reservoir, ?

Commercially available or roll-your-own variety?

it actually is called a snubber. it is used to reduce the pressure/vacuum spikes to gauges in some systems.
see my post hopefully the links are still good.

Thank you all for your help!

After a visit to a Honda shop and a return trip to the same Honda shop we have it fixed. It was a tank venting issue. The mechanic blew the hose out and we are back in business. The tip about opening your gas cap was what saved the day.

Now I am off to explore Utah with my bike running like its old self!
