I remember being at Ft. Lee in Virginia doing PT one morning and that day was the Armys' birthday.  We shared the grounds with the Marines stationed there and as the they fell in for their morning formation, the Gunny had them do a right face and then started running them in formation around us as we went through our daily ritual singing the Army song for us.  It was pretty neat and we all just stood at attention and saluted them as they ran past.

So, to all my Marine Corps. Brothers and Sisters, Semper Fi! Happy Birthday and long may your flag fly for the oppressed, where ever they may be.

Happy Birthday to all the Marines, including my son SSgt. Rob Phillips 0311.  This is in honor of his service, and that of all other Marines who have exemplified what Honor really means.  Sempre Fi son.  Love, Dad

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, signed a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" , for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

Happy Birthday, Marines, you have a lot to celebrate, and we all have a lot to be grateful for. Personally, thanks for making my stay at Little Creek especially memorable.

During the Reservoir, I never received a wound, frost bite, or any of that, even though I was on the front line 99.9% of the time.

Arrived in Korea, July of 1950, did my 13 months and rotated home in August 1951.

Went to Swamp Lejeune as a almost 20 year old Buck Sgt with 3 rows of lettuce.   Got my ribbons ripped off by a Lt. St Peter.   The CO at the base was also in Korea with me and knew me from being in the area he was in.

After the ripped lettuce, I went to his office and asked for a transfer, to go anywhere.  CO wanted to know what happened to my Jacket, told him and also stated St Peter had said I never earned it and I shouldn't be wearing it.

He was called into the office via the PA system.

CO asked a bunch of questions, and finally told St Peter, I had more days in Combat than he had in the USMC.........

Arrived back in Korea March 1952, 18th Draft, and in 5 months, I picked up 5 Purple Hearts.  Guess I couldn't keep my butt down on this tour....  LOL.
