Just my 2 cents worth on car tires vs. motorcycle tires - definately a different twist on the subject.  I have put 150,000 miles on various car tires,  but I will not preach to you about the do's and don't's of a car tire.  For me it wasn't the expense of a motorcyle tire, but being the only "1 handed" rider on the vrcc and only having use of my rear brake, I was interested in the stopping power of the car tire which is approximately 7" wide vs 2 1/2" wide, and yes I have tied my brakes together in the past, been there done that.  Not good!  I have not had a problem with slow speed handling although it was something I was expecting going into the purchase of a car tire.  They counter steer more than I would like but that too was a given.  As far as the longivety of a car tire, that's also a given.  Like I said they aren't for everyone, neither are limeys, but I like them both.  Bottom line is, like Willow said, that's all I have to say about that!

I run the GY TT 205/60. I thought the poll was for a percentage tally of users, but is now a pro/con thread. - had a lot of interest in the CT threads over the last couple years and read all I could so as to make an informed decision. I HAD decided against the CT. But later decided to give it a try. For me, I have been satisfied with the CT. When someone who isn't a CT user wants to discuss it with me, I tell them I don't reccommend it; they tend toget a puzzled look, then I tell them it has to be their personal decision based on the information they can gather pro and con, but don't do it because someone says they should.

Hey Don, I am guessing that you are the first one handed VRCC member but you are not the only one. I know a fellow in NY that is a one handed VRCC Valkyrie rider. His name is Jeff and his wife is Debbie. He is missing his right hand at the wrist. He has his bike set up the same way that you have. He also rides a crotch rocket. I don't know if it has anything to do with having just a left hand and riding a Valkyrie but the two one handed Valk riders that I know are two of the nicest folks I have ever met. I am proud to call you both friends. You are truly amazing. I have never givin a second thought to my daughter riding with you. In fact she prefers it that way. Grin

One handed MC riders are extraordinary to be sure. Then to ride a heavy duty crusier is phenomenol.

Once seen a guy at a bike rally of sorts with an old Harley. Probably from the Korean War era.
Kick start. Old School. Guy was likely a Korean War Vet too. Somewhat long in the tooth. And missing his right leg just below the hip.

Dozens of folks watched him kick start it, he had to do it 3 times with his left leg, Kick starter on right side, then throw his leg over the bike, pop the kick stand, and haul butt out of the place.

Apparently if you got enough determination and customizing skills, you can drive anything.

Back in 1975 i had ran 15' car tire Bias ply (Tube) spokes, In that era i never seen a CT on a Motorcycle, they may have been out there but i never seen one. The tire back then seemed to have more of a round shoulder not so square. But all & all i do remember putting 36.000 miles on that tire, you see at that time this was my only transportation. So now that i am still alive and 'been there done that' it is just a revisit from something that has been done before. The car tire is not going to handle in the corners like MC but this big ole girl is not a sport bike, though it does with no problem get right on the pegs in the turns. If the MC tire co's could give some more millage it would be worth trying again,So 36.000 miles is the main purpose for me, maybe not for all.
Muffler dont need no stinkin Muffler Man did this bike get me in some trouble! police

Bike tire  47 (39.2%)

OK, I tried to close it, but can't.

It's definitive, of those who voted, 61 percent run a car tire and 39 percent run a bike tire.

That is all.

First of all I will always ride a MC tire. Just dont like to idea of a CT on my bike. My personal preference. I too have several friends in the VRCC that ride on a CT. My experiance with a CT was short. This last spring when I removed the sidecar from my fathers Valk I left the CT (a triple tread  I think) and rode it for a couple of days. I know that was not a lot of time to "get used to it" but that is the way it turned out. Anyway. I went into it with a open mind. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But with that being said I didn't like the "Feel". Again my preference. I had to "push" it into turns and curves and when it came back up it was like a weeble wobble. It also seamed to follow the truck grooves in the road more but in all fairness my 200 metz does that a little too. If you asked me 2 years ago if I would install a CT on my bikes I would have said NO WAY its not a good idea,to dangerous. But now after seeing guys like Smokin Joe ride on one I have gotten away from that ideal. I still won't put one on my bike but can see the reasons for doing so. I have to agree with Willow though. If the only reason you are installing one is cost. That is not a good reason.......Ride safe all.......
