Peterbilt Street Rod with a 12V-71 Detroit, Wow that would be a blast to drive.  I spent a year driving a old Freightliner COE with a 12V-71 hauling lumber from Darby and Lolo MT down to Idaho Falls.  Old man Grover had us pulling Rocky Mountain doubles over Lost Trail Pass until the state put a set of scales in on the north side of Salmon.  Those 12 cylinder Detroits and 3408 Cats were the most powerful things you could get in a road truck then.

I hate to say anything bad to you timberwolf. But at my age the last good El Camino was made in 1972.  With 1969 being the best year ever. Yes i am an old car guy an set in my ways. After 1972 chevy and all the other car makers took a dip in H.P. and style all togather.  Sad

Nice. . .  I'm thinking the thing would produce some great numbers on the dyno. No one would confuse it with a Rat Rod though, but I like it. . . .

Didn't Detriot start lowering the boom after the 71 models? Really, I think many car guys believe 1970 was the 'KING' year as far as raw muscle, no? (With my apploigies to all the mopar guys who will be screaming about the 71 Cudas and Challengers with their Hemi's and 440 six-pacs  crazy2 70 was the only year you could get the 454 LS6 (or the lesser LS5) In 71 all you could get was the LS5 and it de-tuned even further, no? I'm not a Chevy guy. I like em well enough, but by no mmeans am I any sort of expert.

I never dragged against a 440. . .  but if you caught an inexperienced Hemi driver late in the night or early in the morning after he ran it street light to street light all night, most likely his plugs would be fouling out and it was an easy pass. Just the truth. No flame intented - just conversation  Grin

I ALWAYS watched & looked over the other car(s) before I ran my mouth. If someone rolled up with a six point cage installed correctly, a tranny loop on the underside, and screws in his tires. . . . .  he most likely knew what it was about and out of my 'saturday night' league. (but my oldest brother in his blown 67 camaro would race him-LOL - He NEVER lost a drag race in that thing. It's still a local ledgend in our hometown True story) Those days sure were fun Pops. . . . wow! What did you drive/run? And, what was your first car?

I would rather go to a car show that featured Home built rods, Rat Rods, and real Ol Skool machines, than those ultra detailed trailer queens that are so popular at most car shows. Build them to drive them!
My philosophy is,...a car or bike is like a woman,...and I don't need no "high maintenence" monkey on my back.

And just for Timbr,....a 1973 El Camino with a coupla of bikes in the back

Now this is a 1970 part# 3965774 code# XCH  LS-7 to all the old hot rods here known as the (STILL BORN Motor) option for the 1970 Corvette never released  option got shot down by EPA and as we know all the HP after 1970 took a downturn. I have Googled to LS-7 and the young kids of now have tossed this as never happened or GM never made oh yes they did $2.700 from Paramount Chey in LA in a crate and home it came with me.The yellow sticker on the flywheel said Off ROAD USE ONLY, 12-1/2 to 1 compression open chambered heads ZL-1 solid cam full floater rods steel crank ect ect, factory rated 465 yeah right had it on the dyno with 2 660's @ 640 hp GM just trying to stay under the Radar LOL. Wife made me sell it almost flipped it in the high speed zone on Lake Elsinore Ca. I am a old Parker AZ River RAT use to Blow away all the Jet boat hotrods making all the noise heheh 3 speed auto. Rigging done by Connelly boats.

The good ole days,I had the headers custom made as you can see they have a bell shape to prevent back wash from getting back in the motor, I did take off the 660's and ran a 1050 put back on a motor cover to hide the motor pipes are water injected, And was this thing a Sleeper LOL. Seen message on google while back (LS-7 boat) tried to email but his post was like 3 years old. My Dad would always say watch out for the quiet guy LOL.

KW I have had many cars too many to list. I had a 69 El Camino with a small block in it that just shook at the stop light 375 hp. It was a real fun car. My daughter was graduating at the time and begged me to let her take it to school. Well against my better judgement i let her and  still hear stories of her racing. I here it would beat all the new cars at school. That was 13 years ago. I had a 84 Hurst Olds and a 72 Vet. a bunch of others. Right now i have a 57 Chev. conv. that i have put a 400hp small block in 411 rear end gears with a 4 speed auto. Its a real sleeper if you know what i mean. I have a 72 Mustang fastback that i have stored for 20 years. I am going to get to that one next its all there just needs everthing gone thru. This summer i picked up a 49 Chev. pickup right out of the junkyard. It came compleat with bullet holes. This is my wifes dream and it will be a lot of work to get this one on the road. I plan to put a big block in the 57 and take its motor and put it in the truck. But at 54 i don't move as fast around a car as i use to. I did buy a car lift to make it so i don't have to crawl under them anymore. If i ever figure out how to post pictures watch out.

fstsix. . . . . WOW!!!! Now THAT'S impressive!!!  How many times did you go airbourne!?!?!?!   cooldude

Pops; sounds like you're a hard core car guy, which means you're slightly off balance like me and my sons  Cheesy My 'dream chevy's' are either a 57, 4 door, no post or the BIG DOG, 70 Chevelle with the 454 LS6. The most raw ponies from Detriot during the muscle car era. 450 HP. Got to love that. . . . . but, I grew on 'Arrows'. My dad was a hard core Pontiac guy and I quess I just fell into line. I was the 3rd teenager to get his 66 Catalina with a 389. I would never race a 1/4, but would (and stupidly did) race to the next town. That wide track would PING the speedo and keep pulling.

My youngest son and I have been working on our 69 Stepside for just over 2 years now. We got her painted and put in a new wood bed this past summer. All that's left is the interrior. The motor is complerted. She still has her orginal 402 BB with the matching Turbo 400. The icon on my posts is from 3 years ago when we picker her. . . . . I'll post the finsih truck when we get back home from FLA. We've done a lot on the motor & ignition. I haven't put her on the dyno, but I'm guessing the HP is north of 400 (conservatively guess)

Are you coming to Michigan next summer for InZane? My wife and I would LOVE to have over any and all car guys riding Valks  Cool

Opps i didn't see the move bar to move over to see the rest of the front end uglystupid2.At the angle of the pic i was thinking it was a Chevelle. My brother sold the family 1966 goat after 30 years i still kick myself for not buying it from him. some still feel the GTO was the first real muscle car of the sixties. Would have made a nice PRO street car.

Nice 64 Jerry. . .  The side by side headlights give the year away. As I'm positive you know, they stacked them in 65 and the GTO became it's own 'brand' in 66. Is it the orignal engine? What tranny do you have?

I KNEW there were some Mopar guys lurking in the weeds somewhere crazy2 I like those 5 spokes. Very nice. They look 'old school' to me. . . . cooldude

You're right about modern muscle.  Same HP, but with better breaks, steering and rubber.

I guess i still like old school. I was coming back from SC to VA in my 328ci and my wife in her 911/964-C2 was next to me on a 4 lane highway and nobody around she hammers Her FSTSIX and @ 140 she pulled me so hard i had to call search and rescue to find her. My 328 could pull the 911 from the line but once we got rolling it was all over.1991 911 51.000 mi. always stored in climate controlled garage Her idea of a FSTSIX.

Jerry B, Big Mopar fan myself, they nailed it when they brought back the lines from the early 70,s Your car reminds me of a good friend from the past, he just got out of the Army back in the 70's and came home and 2 days later he pulls up in 197O Challenger RT/ SE 440 6-pack 727 torqflight slapstick 410 rear, I must admit i always been Gm guy but that day it changed. we went to a back road and he hammered the 440 and for the first time he scared me 1st gear and through 2nd w/posi it stayed lit we were all over the road hanging on LOL. Well after that we would go prowling the blvds and beat up on just about anything LOL.BTW Mopar behind my 911. Cummins turbo diesel truck.
