I'm getting ready to remove the rear wheel again on my 1999CT(10,000mile check) and change out the Universal Joint and Boot too...The questions I have about this is as follows...
When I remove/install the Oil Seal on the Shaft (how far back will it go/ will it stop at a certain spot?...is there any special way to install the new one? (Tricks of the trade)
Do I use a flat bladescrew driver to get it seated?...
Does it just slide on easily or do I have to twist it till it gets to where it should be?...
Will it be seated properly when I finally install the shaft into the pinion cup?...
I just don't want to damage the rubber seal as I install it...!!!
The last time I had the shaft off every thing looked good but I want to replace the Oil Seal, Stopper Ring,
Spring, Washer, and Snap Ring along with the Yoke and Boot...This way I will feel better that it is done
properly...Or at least I know I have done it the best I can...!!! Wish me luck...and Thanks for all you do...!!!

Let's see. To replace the seal on the shaft, you'll have to have the spring and hardware removed from the shaft. It fits right over the shaft until the point where it sits; it's larger there, and machined for the seal to be seated / placed properly. There is a "stop" area. Personally, I used a 1" box wrench and a small dead blow hammer to install mine, since I didn't have a suitable pipe handy.

If you're taking the u-joint out, I definitely recommend getting a new boot. It will be much more flexible than the old one, making a miserable job a bit less miserable.

I just did all of this for the first time, so there may be more input from more "seasoned" members, but that's about it. This forum has been a great resource for me as I learn about my Valkyrie.

      Thanks Ken...

I will put your advise into my plans...I did get all new parts so I know that everything would be right...I will just take my time and say a good Prayer when installing the new boot...!!!

Geoff...!!!
