So I put the 97 Valk in the barn last fall and everything was fine. Pulled her out this week, she fired right up, pulled in the clutch and put it in first gear and it lurched forward and stalled. I then realized that the clutch lever was real weak like there was no hydraulic pressure, it pulled all the way back to the grip. What do you think happened over the winter? The fluid in the reservoir was down a little but not real low.

Change the fluid and bleed it well. I will bet you will be good to go.

Take a look under the bike and see if your slave cylinder is leaking. It will ruin the paint job on the rear cover.

The clutch pack dries out, and needs to get fluid onto again.

I would idle the bike for a while over the day, and work the clutch handle, and see how it is tomorrow.

Changing the fluid (checking the level) is something that may need doing.

DOT 4 brake fluid. If you've never changed your fluid, I'm sure it's going to be nasty. Be prepared to clean out your reservoirs.

DOT 4 brake fluid. If you've never changed your fluid, I'm sure it's going to be nasty. Be prepared to clean out your reservoirs.
I like the Valvoline Syn Dot 4 fluid. .. And the point on cleaning the reservoirs.  I have a dedicated turkey baster to suck out all the fluid in the brake and clutch reservoirs. After that, take a paper towel and wipe the interior good. Then next, Qtip the corners as there still will be gunk stuck there.  Refill with clean and bleed from there. -- Its easier this way as opposed to flush bad fluid thru the system.  Cool

+1 on checking clutch slave. Had mine go out in Los Angeles traffic and had to flatbed the bike home. I keep a clutch slave cylinder rebuild kit in my saddlebag when i tour now.
