I bought my Valk new in May of 2014. But because I live in the northern part of the country - snow 4 to 5 months of the year, and I have 2 bikes, my Valk only has about 7,000 miles on it. I bought new spark plugs to install, I guess only because the plugs are 5 years old. The bike runs great,  so that is not my concern. My question is are plugs less efficient due to age?  I have no problem changing them, I love tinkering on bikes. So I guess I am asking do plugs need changing solely due to miles, or does age effect  their efficiency?

I always take ohm readings of any plugs I use.  There are specs for the plugs by the manufacturer of that plug for ohms. some manuals actually provide that, I don't see it in the classic valkyrie manual, don't know about the 1800. if the gap is good and plenty of square sharp edges, the plug is good to use no matter the age.

I changed mine to platinum fine wire and it really did not need it. Plugs today go many miles without a problem. Technically the bike could run better with new plugs but more than likely it will be an exercise in spending time with your bike. I switched to the Denso and I did feel an ever so slight difference in starting and idling just for information.
