My neighbor has these for his truck and I thought it was such a good idea I bought a set.  They arrived today.  I don't haul my bike often in the truck, but when I do the only concern I had was the wee little cables holding up the tailgate when I ride up the ramps with the bike.  Well, this solved that concern, they are super easy to put on and take off, and they are the perfect length so 90% of the weight of the tailgate is on the cables when unloaded.  As soon as significant weight is put on the tailgate and the cables stretch even the slightest bit, BOOM the bars take over and alleviate further stress on the cables.  Perfect  cooldude

Good idea!  They don't make them for my truck ('02 Dakota), but I think I could make a pair myself, if the tailgate design is similar.

They show them for 2003 and up, but not 2002.  I am unaware of tailgate differences between 2002 & 2003, if there are any.  I'll have to have a look next time I'm at the auto wrecker's.

Great idea, but those tin tailgate latches aren't that tough either......

good idea have heard stories of those cable snapping and driving a cycle or ATV up the back weighing 800lbs. each plus me pushing 300lbs. on the tailgate am sure is pushing the limits of any cable that size.  for 60-70 bucks probably a good thing to use for safety, good idea.

what no toyota tundra ones?   The cables must be stronger on toyota trucks (doubt it just kidding) but the darn thin removeable sheet metal on the inside of the tailgate of my tundra is so thin I can push in on that removable plate with my thumb full force and dent it in a smidge.  I use a heavy duty rubber bed mat over the inside of tailgate even standing on it for the inside of tailgate will dent/crease in with me on it alone.  I do not dare jump up and down on my tailgate for am sure it will dent in a smidge that thin removeable bolted in sheet metal plate.
