So I have a 99 and I really want a fuel gauge. I know it isn't necessary but I want one.

I found this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwRaa-37UP4

I love the gauge thats in between the two factory gauges. Not sure what it is but in a perfect world that would be the actual gauge.

Joop has passed so I can't get one of his but I could get this:

https://www.lskelectronics.com/fuelgaugeprouni

That said I could also track down an interstate tank, have it painted, and find an aftermarket gauge to go with it.

Thoughts?

I'd love to be able to just go with an aftermarket gauge set though. My tank is mint, multi colored, and pinstriped. I really don't want to pay to have another tank matched. Looks like for about 150 I could get an aftermarket setup.

I would really love to know where that LED gauge came from in the youtube video. I asked on there but I feel like someone on here knows.

That gauge in the middle is a voltmeter. There was something posted a little while back about a fuel gauge setup that used the head pressure of the fuel line. I will see if I can find it.

That LSK unit uses head pressure.

I wonder if I could use a voltage 12v to 16v dc converter to send power to the sending unit gadget and then program it to show 8v-16v as the fuel levels. I really like that little gauge. Looks like the numbers are just a sticker that I could peel/polish off.

Use a PIC for this.

Plenty of examples online on how to make them act as a bar-graph voltmeter or ohmmeter (which is really what a fuel gauge is, in theory). You'll need an op-amp or similar level converter to drive your voltmeter, and you might be able to get away with powering a single-ended-supply op-amp by means of the DC-DC converter you mentioned. I'd opt for an 18-20V device.

My '99 Tourer has a 2" diameter automotive LED fuel gauge which is adjustable to a sender's resistive element. It's actually more accurate than the display on my I/S, though I used an I/S tank and sender.

Could you show me a picture of your gauge? I really want something small and simple like that volt meter.

Here's a link to an eBay auction for the one I have: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-2-52mm-Car-Motorcycle-Fuel-Level-Meter-Gauge-LED-Display-Digital-12V/223128909483?epid=15026318138&hash=item33f384f6ab:g:vmgAAOSwq9ZbjQEw&frcectupt=true

MC Enterprises once sold digital gauges for the Valkyrie and other motorcycles. These were mounted in a custom aluminum housing (supplied as part of the kit); oil pressure, water temperature and a voltmeter were offered for the Valkyrie. Dakota Digital and several others offer 2" (52mm) gauge cups for 1" bars. Swap the OEM top handlebar clamp for a two-piece unit (I used the parts from a Shadow) and you have the perfect location to mount a gauge.

My fuel-level gauge resides in one of the original MC housings. I changed all the gauges over to JDM style blue digital units after I removed them from the bike they were originally installed on...my first I/S.
