Questions for Sir Britman...

Mr. Paul,
Myself and two others bikers are travelling down south next week to show them some good roads. We are planning the dragon, then on to Robbinsville. I want to go on over to Highlands and prefer 129 to Topton, then up 74 and over Wayah Road to Franklin. Are these routes in good shape and what is a good route to Cherokee from Highlands? Thanks.

You're going to miss out the Cherohala?
The northern half of Wayah Rd has been repaved.
The southern part will have gravel in some of the switchbacks as usual.

Plus 1 on the Cherohala. I live on Rt 28 in Stecoah and have been on most of these roads recently. Wayah road is in great shape with a few repairs as you get close to Franklin. Rt 28 from Franklin to Bryson City is incredible. Rt 28 to Deals gap is also in great shape and so is Rt 129 from Deals gap to Robbinsville. Stop at Tapoco Lodge (just south of Deals gap on Rt 129) for lunch also if you get a chance stop at Cafe Rel in Franklin. I am not a big fan of Highlands so no comment on roads in the area.

Excellent place for lunch or dinner. But i have not been there in a few years.
Also I enjoy staying at the Best Western in Dillsboro on the River, very nice place to stay.
