Author Topic: Wiring help: Tourer Fender on Interstate  (Read 959 times)

 I removed the trunk from an interstate and do not plan on putting it back on.

I have installed a taillight/brake light from a Tourer, along with the fender wiring loom from a Tourer.

Can somebody help me out on matching up the wiring here?
I am not the best with electrical. I have the diagrams in front of me and I see where things go on the Tourer vs Standard... what I cannot determine is what wires need to be connected to each other to make everything work. For instance right now I have a working taillight/brake light, working turn signals, but the constant-on feature of the turn signal lights is not working. I put in brand new dual-filament bulbs and swapped out the turn signal relay just to be sure. No dice.

I have been searching the tech forum and I KNOW others have dealt with this during Supervalk conversions. So i apologize for my inability to find whatever writeup might exist.

The stock rear turn signals are single-filament bulbs (1156). They were never intended to function as running lights.

Many of us have swapped the rears for fronts (which use an 1157 dual-filament bulb). This leaves us with two problems: Making them function as running light AND turn signals, and the fact that a constantly illuminated yellow light at the rear of a motor vehicle will often get you a ticket.

I made "Y" adapters and ran the running-light connections from the front signals to the back of the bike, where they tie into the running light connections of the new signals. Another way is with a Badlands or similar run-turn-stop module (which is how my current I/S is set up). This approach doesn't require modification to the existing signal arrangement; it's all done via the controller and one wire per signal.

Lenses...easiest thing to do here is to swap them for a pair of Kuryakyn deep-dish bezels w/ red lenses, or use the same setup w/ clear lenses and red bulbs. I've also converted the lenses from Blazer C827R marker lights to function as rear lenses on the 2000-up (single screw) signal assemblies.

I'm sure others will chime in with their thoughts.

I did the same thing.  I had to buy a Tourer harness because the connectors are different from the interstate to the tourer due to the lights.
I cannot remember which one I needed to complete the install but I believe it was number 8 in this diagram.

No. 8 is the tilt sensor.

I never thought of that, I've only been wanting to add a brake light to my IS, not Supervalk and change my turn signals into running lights. But if I change the rear wires to a Std/Tourer wire harness, then I have one loose wire. Wont matter since I'm keeping my trunk, but it might be nice to swap out, and have extra running lights.

Gordon I just spliced my taillight to the existing wites on my IS and also put a spoiler on the trunk with an LED brake light. Very simple.

Sorry typo.... Number 6 is the harness
