The days of wasting 20-50 bucks every time going out to drink are gone.  I can spend one dollar for a drink at home same thing going out somewhere costing 4-5 bucks seems so not worth it as I get older.  Now, my Dad when he was drinking use to go down to the local small town bars near daily after work for a few hours and drink mostly beer, then come home near daily and grab the bottle of brandy under the kitchen sink having a shot as well.    Am sure he would have had 20 grand easily (probably double that) saved up more so if not have gone down to the bars to drink vs. drinking at home, but back then was more a social event to catch up on the local gossip and tell stories..  That generation is going away quickly since feel not many go 'downtown' locally to drink near daily anymore after working all day.  The day I found out he lost his taste buds stopped drinking totally entirely a few years before he passed on in his 70's was a shocker for sure.  He dropped a lot of weight as well because of just stopping drinking am sure.
