Oh good something else to worry about! Seriously, thanks for the tip. Physical symptoms are nagging, (neck, throat, shoulders, headaches) so am forging ahead with medical and weighing options lawyer vs. not, etc.. Noticed R. side of BonS lights lenses were actually popped from the bases at the bottom from the impact, so both sides are toast. The trunk mount is also bent just a bit, and I may need one of those as well. Removing the trunk is not in the cards right now... This can o' worms is getting squirmy, and it's pretty complex already. I do plan to at least consult with the Law Tigers this week, submitted an online introduction describing the accident yesterday... Sinking in that my girl is likely out if commission until at least spring, especially considering haggling for parts, custom paint and installation and electrical work beyond my skills. Not to mention that this has been all consuming for me, making it difficult to focus on the good things in life. One good thing, I keep telling myself at least I have a life. Rode my Bullet yesterday before the monsoons set in. Ended up going to the gas station to top tank off, checked mail then rode back home. Lotsa tourists out and it felt "different"...

What Carl said:
"I disagree with the assessment that it's not enough damage to total. They will total it. That only applies to how much they will pay you. Maintain possession of the bike. Don't let anyone else physically possess it. In most states if the title doesn't change hands it remains in effect. That is to say a salvaged title is only for one who has bought an already totaled vehicle.
When they propose to total the bike you negotiate a lower payment to you for you to maintain ownership. It is at that point only a totaled vehicle to the insurance company that pays you and to no one else."
When I totaled my IS a few years ago the Insurance co wanted to come pick it up from me in my garage - you loose al the power that way. Keep the bike and the title in your name! They offered me $48k but I got them up to $75K including the $$ they paid for the add on accessories. I had to get copies of similar bikes for sale, my agent had to call the company several times and bitch at them till 2 months later they finally paid. I bought the bike back without a salvage title. It's Dean's bike now.
Hope you get to feeling OK!

I have on same color as yours but run it with a passenger seat and a Standard back rest. You could do that while you wait for a good trunk come available. I was going to add a picure of mine but I forgot how to add one to the forum lol. And yes, I have the trunk but I will not part with it, sorry...

Thanks. I've got some feelers out for a trunk, waiting on the Progressive adjuster. Says he can't get here until the 15th.

OK, after complaining about "soonest" appointment being 15th the Progressive adjuster had a cancellation and can be here from Grand Junction tomorrow morning. He asked me to have a list of customizations done on the bike, I filled a couple pages and I'm sure I'm missing stuff. He also said he wouldn't be able to give me an immediate figure. I told him good. I'm in no rush for a lowball number.
Gonna reread all replies, but any last minute hints or ideas gladly accepted.
On the med. No obvious bone damage on xrays but headaches and neck swelling, and range of motion in neck limited. Ortho doc requesting MRI.

The other thing you can do to help yourself, is to search on line for similar condition interstates for sale for decent prices. Collect a series of links (from here, the Cycle Trader or elsewhere), copy them and give them to him, or email the list to him for his review.
I believe the 2001 Pearl Cheyenne Red with Gloss Black paint on yours was the rarest of all interstate colors. Dag from Norway's website used to have a listing of all these facts, but I can never navigate that site worth crap. I think only a very small number with that paint were made (the number is documented somewhere). That doesn't make them gold, but everything you do to increase value is to your benefit.

Official accident report. "Vehicle #2 was northbound on CO Hwy. 149 stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of US Hwy. 50 facing north. Vehicle #1 was traveling northbound on CO Hwy. 149 approaching the intersection of US Hwy. 50. Vehicle #1 collided with vehicle #2 front to rear in the northbound lane. Vehicle #2 came to final rest in the eastbound lane of US Hwy. 50. Vehicle #1 came to final rest in the northbound lane of CO Hwy. 149 facing northbound". Accurate except I came to rest in the westbound lane of Hwy. 50. Kid knocked me clear across the road! Estimated speed me 0 mph, him 25 mph. No wonder my neck is f-ed up. 1-3 scale (slight, moderate, severe) damage, his vehicle right front 3, center front 2 hood 2 My vehicle two rear sections 3 It was a significant whack, even popped the brass screw sleeve out of a light mounting post while shattering other posts and the inner housings. Got a birds eye view of the construction of BonS' LED trunk lights. Impressive! Headaches, swollen neck, and stiff shoulders continuing, even worsening. I just hope there aren't lots of other hidden problems waiting to rear their ugly heads on both my bike and my body.

Well, what a hassle getting rear ended is! Long story short, I came out alright. I looked into a couple ambulance chasers, one who only deals in the medical side, another who worked both property and medical. Both wanted 40%. I decided to go it alone... The injuries were whiplash related, and the neck popping lasted will beyond the PT sessions. Continued home therapy had helped me to get those under control without having to pursue chiropractic. There was a building disk, which couldn't be directly attributed to the accident. For all I know it's still there... Regardless, I came out okay money wise. I didn't want to make a million. I came out around the 8k zone and was fully reimbursed for medical. The trunk I found was not inexpensive, considering shipping expenses and paint. It was in very nice condition. Which brings me to my next dilemma. The local auto body shop had to remove the green and black, then paint the Cheyenne Pearl Red. I brought in chips from the original trunk, some large, as well as the Honda paint codes. The black trim and silver pinstriping were out -- too much dinero to attempt. I even came back by with Ruby so they could have a close look. Both the owner and the paint tech had a look, and even took pictures. I also removed the old rack and had them drill the new lid for it, as I use it often when two up. Got it back a while back and have ridden several times. But the color. It just isn't right. I noticed it day one, but it's definitely mighty close in the color spectrum and I was so excited to ride again that after getting it back on, I've let it slide. It is cursed close, but... Cheryl and I rode the 92 loop around Crawford, Delta and Montrobia today. Great ride, Ruby purring very happily and eating the traffic as usual. But, in the bright sunshine, that trunk paint is just a tad lighter with just a bit more coppery brown and a smidge less red that to me it is more than noticeable. Dang. It is the rarest of all the Interstate colors, no biggie. So, to pick the collective's brain. The paint job was not cheap. Six bills after negotiation. According to the owner the tech spent eight hours on the trunk between the buffing, drilling, prep and painting. I don't imagine they are going to want to redo for zilch. I think I may be able to live with the off color, but I'd probably be able to live with it better if he could knock off a couple, few hundred bucks. Hmmm. If it was you, and your bike, what would you suggest I do? If you'd want that perfect color match, how might you convince the owner they should eat the (eight hours?) labor and additional paint and materials? If he balks at that, how do I best convince him that a discount or partial refund is in order? I would take some pics but I'm lounging right now. Maybe manyana. Also, "summer" is here and here they are short. IF I can convince him to repaint, I may request that he schedule me for late fall when the frigid air settles back in... Suggestions welcome.

Your best bet would have been get your paint from US Paints they make the paint. Hard to match factory by mixing your own as they did. When I had my bags painted to match my bee it was off because painter did a digital scan and it was way lighter that the Hot Rod Yellow from the factory. He repainted for free but said I had to supply the paint. I found tbat US Paint did the factory mixing for honda. So I called them and the lady one the phone was very knowledgeable I told her my bike and she said yep code Y130P Hot Rod Yellow and we have it in stock. So I bought it ( it wasnt cheap but worth it to me) painter resprayed and it was a perfect match. Had to but a quart and their pearl and clear to go with it. But hey I am Happy. Oh and I paid $500 for the bags and another $600 for the fairing. They guy that did mine built custom hot rods and had all kind of awards. He is gone now R. I. P. Greg. Remember a cheap paint job aint good and a good paint job aint cheap.

If like my Hyundai sonata, harbor gray metallic paint chip code had to get another lower rocker panel and the paint chip code from factory had like 7 different variations of that paint chip code. body shop showed me all the colors and me color blind had to have the wife come and say which one matched the bad rocker panel gray color best. I knew it was not 4-5 of the 7 or so grays, but the 2-3 looked very darn close in color to me. sucks they cannot match it exactly especially since you noticed the variance. Why couldn't they have spray painted a sample of the color to show you it matched EXACTLY BEFORE painting the rest of the bike? That seems pretty simple to do right BEFORE spending all that money on painting it?

Sorry to read about your accident and luckily you're fine yourself. Somebody bumped into my rear as well three weeks ago We were riding with 3 bikes, I was in mid position and a guy with a HD behind me. When we took a right turn onto a parking place, I heard a bike sliding behind me and I was hit. The front bike had a rear looking camera and the whole accident was on video https://youtu.be/gitU7kh2kvEAs it turned out, the rider behind me tried to catch up on us, did not keep enough spacing and hit the brakes in panic. Front wheel blocked and the rest is history. Nothing spectacular, no personal injury but my bike was totalled. After all, a 20 year old bike with 120.000 miles is not worth very much. Bummer because I always kept my bike in mint condition and it had a lot of original accesories that are not for sale any longer. So, after the insurance was done with their estimates and all the paperwork, I ended up with about half the amount of money that the total repair will cost. It's sad that you have an accident which is not your fault and end up with a broken bike and own payment to get the bike fixed again. I wish you goodluck and that you'll be on the road again soon.

Luckily, I wore an airbag vest that deployed in time Shame Shame on the HD rider trying to catch up and not paying attention. I'm sure glad you were not seriously injured and a good testiment for having the airbag vest. I hope you get her squared away and back out riding soon.

Beer I’m real sorry to hear (and see) this. I’m glad you are ok. Makes one of those air vest more appealing. I imagine the riders were (and are still) your friends. I hate to be critical of a friend of yours, but it seemed like he had plenty of room and time to get around you. A newish rider ? Regardless, I’m glad you are ok. Sucks about the bike, I know you had it fixed up how you like. Take care

Beer that certainly didn't look like much fun! That was a good air vest testimonial right there! Glad you had one on and sorry about your bike.
Bighead thanks for the paint tip. I was hoping with all the fancy computer matching nowadays they'd have got it right. Cookie I did notice the variance but not until after the painting was done and I got the trunk mounted. Larue I was wondering that as well.
Since the shop hasn't seen the trunk on the bike yet, I guess I'll swing by to let them take a grander and take it from there...
Thanks for the input.
Ride safe!

Very sorry to hear (see) this Beer. Sorry, but I think the guy that wrecked you is a lousy and untrustworthy rider. Your deceleration (exhaust) could clearly be heard on the video, and he was not watching and then fixated on you and braked too late and too hard, then dumped it under you. You must keep riders with suspect skills ahead of you (at all times). Better yet, leave them at home. Steer him toward a new hobby; do they do bowling in the Netherlands? Reason I suggest bowling is, every time he goes to the line, he is trying to knock down 10 things. He owes you a bike too (or his insurance does). And with that video, the only issues left are the value of your bike, and the costs of your medicals.

seeing that video is hard to believe even at that low speed locking up either front or rear brake will make the front end go down ASAP like that. I know my Valk brakes and all other bikes I own the brakes are not that touchy, except for my kids yamaha fjr1300 which is insanely touchy you do not want to lock or HARD brake that bike for it not having ABS braking will either stop on a dime or skid out of control. touching the fjr1300 hand brake lever a mere one inch is very hard braking vs. rest of my cycles.

Got rear ended 2 yrs. ago by a fellow rider. The issue nowadays is with paint match up, is our bikes are solvent based vs most mixers are water based now. Took 2 wks. for my local mixer to get that into their line of thought and match my Silver Pearl but did get the match finally @ $150. Had the rear fender section done and the tank so if its off in color, I couldn't really tell or care as the saddle bags hide most of the painted parts. Glad you got up and running but $$$$ spent for body work and not matching paint on a very visual piece of your ride and riding time lost, BS! Vendor should more pride in their work period.
