To be good, and to do good, is all we have to do.

I had the main tank off my bike recently, and since putting it all back together the fuel won't flow to the belly tank when the petcock is in the 'ON' position. It will flow when in the 'RES' position.

Only thing changed was I noticed the vacuum port of the petcock was open, and I capped it. I then got to thinking and couldn't remember if it was supposed to be capped or not (I thought originally it was).

I have looked at R&M Works instructions which don't specify if the vacuum port of the petcock is suppose to be capped or left open.

Any insight or help would be appreciated.

The petcock is supposed to be changed to manual, no vacuum operation.  It's fn in ON position is to vent the belly tank to the main. In RES position the fn changes and the flow is to the BT while the bung tube acts as vent.  I don't think the vacuum tube matters if you made it manual like their instructions say.  However the original tank vent tube must not be kinked.  Check that.  Also does it flow OK with the filler cap open?

The question remains to be answered. Should the vacuum opening on the petcock be open, or capped off?

Upon reading further down in the instructions they did indeed say to reconnect the vacuum line to the petcock. I reinstalled the nipple in ol #6's intake, and ran a line up to the petcock. Will test tomorrow.

Notice I'm posting at 11:30 pm. It's these kind of things that keep me up at night  Embarrassed

I answered it.  If it doesn't matter, then it can be either connected or not since the petcock ignores it when it's been changed to manual.  However if it's not connected you need to plug the line to the #6 port or you have a vacuum leak.

So I'm an idiot. I must have had a long term flashback to my Suzuki because I thought the petcock was in the 'ON' position when pointing forward, which is of course the 'OFF' position. When actually in the 'ON' position (pointing down) the Belly Tank vents/fills correctly.

Sigh...

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger.  I had to be rescued by June with a gas can when I forgot the Pingel petcock is off in the fwd position, not reserve, when my pump failed and I tried to use reserve to make it to a gas station.  Of course I didn't tell her my SNAFU.  She doesn't need another example of my idiocy - she already reminds me of the few examples she knows from years ago.  Which I of course long ago forgot.  It's best to keep these incidents among us idiots.  Fortunately she doesn't read this forum.
