who else at work has to pass say 5 of 7 criteria to get GOLD passing status to get a discount on health insurance or if get say 4 of 7 passing which I did has to do a B.S. 6 step session with a 'health' coach 1-800 number who knows nothing about me? I failed waist has to be below 40 has not been since age 18 and under guessing when 195lbs. age 18 I was pushing waist at 40 since they measure at belly button not true waist and I had a small ponch back then in the gut even under 200lbs.. I failed at glucose only 121 now has to be below 100 which it never has been EVER below 100 and failed at triglyceride level has to be below 150 mine was 231 and even when taking triglyceride pills which I am not on currently was NEVER below 200 EVER. Who sets these criteria in health standards some fitness guru nut who does cross fit and runs 10 miles per day? Will be interesting to see what the 'health coach' says the 6 step session is since even if I follow it to the tee will not be able to lower below passing level my waist, glucose, or triglyceride levels. HR at work thought but was not sure even a 10% reduction in any one of those 3 categories would pass so maybe I can discontinue eating sugar ENTIRELY for a few weeks or load up on my triglyceride pills which my Dr. said I no longer need closer to 200 NO pills taking now vs. was over 300 prior 1 year ago needing pills. I say if was over 300 triglyceride 1 year ago vs. now 231 NO pills that should count right as a 10% reduction? Not like I can reduce my waist circumference in belly button area in time allowed over 4 inches being 10% reduction to my high school days 30 years ago without liposuction surgery....

Well. They make the rules. I guess it sux if you can’t pass through all their fiery hoops but It does sound like you would be healthier if you tried regardless of saving $$ on insurance

Ya. Just as I was getting my blood pressure very close, with meds, to the acceptable number, that number was lowered. I’m starting to agree with others that the doctors and drug makers keep needing to make more money. Pharmaceutical company’s and test labs may be the driving force.

Exactly, my point, how many people would meet 5 of 7 standards set? below 100 glucose and under 150 triglyceride is pretty darn low IMO. Under 40 inch waist at the belly button area is do-able as long as under 200lbs. I guess? I guess I need to go back to being age 18 all over again? I doubt many of us have maintained our high school weight after 30+ years or more ago and IMO 200+lbs. is not morbidly obese which it is by today's standards set by someone who is or more like companies who set the absurd standards.

The solution is simple. Just eliminate all the healthy people. Then us old fat guys will be the NEW Average normal person.
Problem solved.

Seems kind of strange to me to be bitching about something that could save your life, or at least improv your quality of life. But......carry on.

My insurance is through the spouses company and we both have to meet certain criteria or it is off to the government exchange. The one I never pass is the BMI chart. I have to have my personal physician do that one with some sort of voodoo ultrasound machine since my height and weight on their charts says I am morbidly obese. The starving in third world countries MIGHT pass their charts.

BMI is a bunch of crap. I stand some 6'3", my chest is some 10-11 inches bigger than my waist (at BB level). According to the BMI chart, I am in the upper level of "Over Weight". AND CookieDough, I am some 40 lbs. heaver then when I left High School. I also had High triglycerides, over 400 when Doc's found out that my Thyroid quit working. Now down to less than 150. Yes, I do workout and try to eat mostly good food, mostly. Thankfully my employer (retired 10 years) did not have any health requirements for our Health insurance.

I don't have any of that crap.
When first enrolled, they offered me a wellness check for free, but no advertised savings if I scored well, and no revealed increases if I scored poorly (which seemed more likely).
I didn't fall for it.
I have a deal with them. I don't go to the doctor, and they don't increase my rates.
(The last two times I went to a Dr for something mildly suspicious, I was told it was just normal, benign, old man parts getting dried out and falling off stuff. So now I assume that's what all suspicious things are.)
I don't have dental ins (worth a crap), so naturally that's the only Dr I need to regularly visit. On reconsideration, my dental insurance is worth 1 and 1/2 craps (per year). After that, they insist on cash.

I calculate them every day and the program we use in the office when you put in height and weight it will pop up if BMI is high that you must counsel patient on weight loss. I have put in a guy that was 6’8” at 300 lbs and it tells me I must counsel him on his BMI when clearly he is not overweight and then the next patient is a 5’2” woman that weighs in at 220 lbs and it doesn’t tell me to counsel her!!!! WTF? You can blame this on Moochele Obama. When her BMI would calculate as high.

Dr. told me a few years ago to eat better, etc. and exercise and the normal crap they tell me so for me now being 230 I feel is pretty darn good. Even 121 or so glucose is not diabetic and thinking if I lay off the juice (apple, orange, etc.) it may go down a smidge, but not under 100 still. I have to register online for a health COACH 6 step B.S. process will see what they want done? I really think the past 5+ years or so more and more companies are requiring screenings and the biggie is smoking, but me not on any meds at all even though overweight not passing is B.S. Smoking is instant fail. Companies do this B.S. to NOT pay their fair share of premiums passing more onto their employees finding any excuse to not pay more. Decades ago in the 1990's you would pay 20 dollars upfront to see a Dr. and 100% after that was covered. Now, you have a high deductible say 1500-4000 bucks that has to be met before ANYTHING is covered so unless on death bed, not going to the Dr.
