Per Colt it has a few internal improvements that were explained on American Rifleman - both the magazine and the TV show.  Go figure.  Dagnabit bringing the Python back will lower the value of mine which was easily worth $4000.  Oh well, I'm not selling it.  They haven't brought it back in blue yet, just SS.

My long living mint perfect safe queen got traded away against an expensive rifle.

The old colt royal blue is far superior to stainless (to my eye).  And they can't afford to reproduce it anymore.

$1500 is steep.

I like S & W better in wheel guns.  YMMV

While I'm thrilled to see 'em bring it back, it's purely for nostalgic reasons.
I've never owned a firearm that I didn't train with. Keeping that in mind, IMHO...
as a personnel defense platform the high capacity polymer pistol has relegated the revolver exclusively to "back up" position. In that role the Colt Python (Cadillac that it is!) has been far surpassed by newer and better design.

I am a revolver guy and hands down the action on a Smith&Wesson is hard to match. The durability and accuracy of my 4” 686 is fantastic. If I need more than six rounds then I need more than a handgun. The reliability and the awesomeness of the .357 high performance hollow point makes this gun my daily carry and frequent practice gun. In my opinion there is no better round for personal protection.

My normal carry is two S&W J-frame .357's - a model 60 and a model 649 shrouded hammer, both with green Crimson Trace laser grips.  Carried in strong side IWB and a concealed vest pocket rig, they back each other up and enable draw from any position.  As it is they cost about $1,000 ea with the green lasergrips.  I would carry a Glock 23 (.40S&W) with Crimson Trace sometimes if it hadn't gone down with nearly all of my other guns in that horrible boating accident.  The Python is a safe queen; way too valuable to be carried with holster wear - or be confiscated by LEO's if I had to use it.  No doubt it would mysteriously disappear if that happened.

A funny thing is, when the KSP trooper asked me if I was carrying on his stopping me for the rolling stop in 2016, I said yes, he said what and where, I said strong side IWB, .357 J-frame, and opened the vest and he reached in and took it until after giving me the ticket.  I said OK, if it makes you feel better.  He said yes it does.  Didn't ask me if that was all I had, or frisk me.  So I didn't mention the vest rig. No law in KS you have to tell them.  Or even have a CCW since 2015; it's now 2A carry.  Frankly he wasn't in any more danger than he was before he confiscated the model 60 carry.  I wasn't gonna shoot him anyway.
