From the bank. Gordon (  Lucky 13 ) and I taking some nice striper from the bank about a mile and a half from my house. We've been fishing here since we was kids riding our bicycles to fish. Both was 38 inches estimated weight 40 lbs. Catch and release both.

Nice lookin' catches! What kind of set up do you use there casting from shore?  Looks like you have a balloon float in that pic...so live bait?  Googled some videos of fishing Stripers in the river....looks like a blast. One day I'd like to try fishing for other species like that down South. Other than riding, fishing is my other passion...mostly flyfishing for trout here in BC and in Northern ID, MT.

wow,  cannot imagine the fight those  HUGE strippers put up being so big.   We catch strippers when we panfish and they take the 6lb. 5 foot light action rod out of the boat with them when they HIT the small panfish lure with a waxworm or spike they hammer it and lb. for lb. they are one of the best fighting fish out there.  NEVER will see a stripper that big in southern WI lakes most are 9-13 inches long and 1 lb. or so tops and here I think our punny ones put up a fight.

Am sure took 20-30 minutes to land such a monster, what a hoot that would be on say 10-12lb. line with medium action rods.  I have caught 10lb. carp on 6lb. line with 5 foot panfish rods light action and that is fun, but unable to eat them rough fish.

I doubt strippers that size are any good to eat anyways since even small strippers on our local small lakes even on ice are not great tasting sort of mushy bass meat, but eatable nonetheless.

Nah,  Gordon's stripper is bigger in the pic than Joe's.  Either that, or Gordon is a lot smaller in stature than Joe and holding the fish up closer to the camera?   2funny

They would not fib to us that they just caught only 1 fish and took 2 different pics with it?   Grin

they do look very similar sized though but unless you have a scale that big for poundage, hard to tell.  My tackle box scales only go to either 10 or 20lbs. since 99.99% of the fish ever caught are under that.

Well cookie knowing both of them yes Joey is larger in stature than Gordon. But neither are large men. And you can easily look at the stripes on the fish and tell it is not the same fish.  And if I know Gordon they only posted the two largest.  coolsmiley

Fantastic fish.  Just another reason to retire to Eastern TN.  Great motorcycle roads and great fishing and great fishing is something my wife and I can enjoy together.

Not the same fish in fact they was caught hours apart . We didn't weigh them but did throw a tape on them before release both was 38 inches.

Live bait … Pound to pound and a half gizzard shad fished 7 / 8 foot under a balloon .
