Go ahead and explain it to me why I need to pay four times what I normally pay for my socks and t-shirts.

It's going to be tough to sell me though, I've never paid for a pair of Nike's because I disdain products that sell because "the name" is product being sold. I'll buy a big name product because their product made their name (Wolverine boots) but not because some athlete wore the product.

Hmmm, I don't agree for paying that much for something similar that works just as well, or better, either.  However, my regular skivvies, socks and T-shirts don't.  There are other similar product brands that works much better than standard cotton.  The key is layers and having the right base, to wick away the moisture from the body.  But I'm sure you knew that and just wanted to vent....

+1 on the Wolverine boots....I just replaced the pair that I wore practically everyday for 3 1/2 years and the cost including tax was about $65.00!

How does "HD" fit in here...   Grin   Do they make Under Armor or a comparable brand of underwear?    And your statement is actually a contradiction in terms I think.....  " Harley Davidson " There is a need to have the latest and greatest.      Grin      It's all in the marketing ..... that's how Obama got where he got.

No they don't make under armor, but what I was referring to was buying a NAME. What Harley does have is the best marketing folks in the world. The latest and greatest is referring to consumers buying habits. I am sorry if you took offense to my statement. I ride with a lot of Harley folks, and am even looking an a 883 or 1200 sports for my for my wife Regina.

Well I for one have a UA shirt. I paid about $50 for it a couple years ago. I only wear it under my uniform shirt during the winter. So maybe 3x a month. It is different then a normal shirt. It does keep me warm but yet when I do sweat it does not make me feel 'over heated' like a normal shirt. It justs 'wicks' the sweat away! The thing I don't like is if it is cold and windy out and the wind goes over my arms, it makes my arm feel cold. I rarley wear a coat in the winter on runs and this is a down fall for the shirt, imho. I also hate how tight it is, shows off my man boobs.  Shocked My HD bud wears a set of UA as long underwear when it gets below 60 degs. He never gets hot or cold with them.
I have tried UA knock offs and it sucks. The original is better.

Check out Gator skins. Its new to the MC world and seems cheaper then UA.

I'm guessing the reason you don't get it is because you don't work outside in the weather  ??? .I have a couple sets of the Cold Gear 3.0 ( top - bottom ) and yes sticker shock will get you when you buy UA just as it does when you buy Gerbing heated gear for riding but thats some of the best money I've ever spent. Not a dimes difference in them and the cheap K-Mart brand when you are doing nothing but get active and you can tell a huge difference. I've got close to $150.00 maybe alittle more in each pair I have and when they are worn out I'll buy some more.IMO worth every penny.

I have not found anything to compare with the UA that was not an 'apples to oranges' comparison. I try to NEVER pay for 'the name' or fall into the marketing hype , But I will pay extra for a Honda Valkyrie because nothing else even comes close!  If any other manufacture made somethin comparable I would defiantly make my decision based on economics. I dont know of better ' bang for yer buck ' than Valks and Under Armor .

20 years ago, when I was seriously into bicycling (made our own off-road snow tires with sheet metal screws), I bought some polypropylene underwear, LL Bean's Lifa. I used it for bicycling, downhill & cross-country skiing. I wore it today for a 250 mile ride to breakfast & back. It has to stretch a bit more, but it still does the job. Not familiar with Under Armour, My Valk, as is, cost me 4 times as much as my scooter. They both do the same thing, but I expect to still be riding the Valk in 20 years... Although maybe on warmer days only. Excuse me, I have to go consult with my stylist...

I'm with you, Raymond.  I just won't pay that kind of money for a set of Under Armor, but I would love to get some for Christmas.

I'll even understand if it's a few weeks late.   Wink

Oh No, but I did hear rumor that beings the Secret Service can't keep some socialite wannbes out of a State Dinner, that Armor Plated Underwear (not to be confused with Under Armor) is being considered for the Obamas and other high ranking officials, with the exception of Biden of course.

I agree with you, mostly.  UA is an example of marketing genius.  They have good products, but get a really good price for them too.  For everyday underwear, sox, polos, hats, and sporty gear, you don't need it.

But like Joe, I have the heaviest Cold Gear mockT and drawers, and it is the best base layer I ever had (and I've got like five other kinds).  It's like a second skin, but compression (supposedly to work your muscles at rest for warmth), and I mean industrial strength pantyhose and shirt that never gets looser, and most who get it for sitting (like on a bike) go up 1-2 sizes minimum, so it doesn't squeeze the heck out of you (like if you have a bit of belly).  I went up only one size and wish it was two.  I also have some Heat gear loose fit (also comes in compression) long and short sleeve Ts and it is great in Hot weather, and to block sun (cheaper than cold gear).  Air goes thru it like riding shirtless, and the sweat disappears in the wind.  For heat gear, I think some of the better knock offs from Cabela's and Gall's police gear are a pretty close 2d.  But the Cold gear is the real deal.  The next best silk and finewool blends cost just as much or more.  There are occasionally sales for UA at Cabela's and LAPolicegear.  Otherwise Gobros has about the best prices you can find.

These are great quality and work well...... made in Norway.

http://www.hhworkwear.com/ww/baselayer

Regardless of hi tech availability these are still my favorite, summer time you can wear them wet and they still keep you warm.  I wore a pair of bottoms this morning with jeans at about 40 below when I fed cows and they kept me warm, tee shirt and one on top with a nomex windbreaker jacket for the top - think I was close to frostbite on my ears and nose as I didn't wear a toque or face guard when I was cutting bales.

I don’t own any but several of the guys in the deer camp do. We’ve been camping and hunting every weekend (and every possible weekday) since mid November in temps down to the low teens. Having good gear is the key when it’s that cold and you’re several days away from being back in a heated home.

Because Under Armor is strongly driven by youthful sales their "yesterday's colors" are sold at really steep discounts. You can pick up tops and bottoms for under $30 each at outlet stores. Just remember to buy several sizes up if you want to breathe. I use UA for my thermal base layer and it works as well as Patagonia or North Face but at a much better price point if you shop one fashion year behind.

I like UA too.  I don't buy much because I am a tightass, and don't make the kinda money most of you guys (and gals) make.  Wink

I have a white, long sleeve one that I wear instead of sunblock.  I think it's cooler than no shirt at all, plus it hides the man-boobs, and pizza gut.

I have some other short sleeve ones that I wear to the gym, and under hunting clothes to help me stay dry.  I usually am sweaty as hell when I deer hunt.

longjohns made out of silk work good as a layer too. I made a big deal in front of

that was a silk/cashmere blend - ALRIGHT CASHMERE UNDERWEAR!

My wife likes and wears the workout shorts, I prefer the loose basketball-style when I hit the gym.  I think it's a bit overpriced too but hey it's not my money.  However, check this out:  Last year I was in an outlet mall in upstate New York, they had an Under Armor store.  Now, outlet malls are supposed to be where you get a DEAL, right? Well, I guess Under Armor scoffs at "sale prices...

Translation:  We don't have a big selection but we are charging you FULL FRIGGIN' PRICE for whatever we have.  Oh, and we are doing this as a favor to you.

Well I refused to be "serviced" in such a manner: I snapped a picture and left!!!

I wonder what sales & marketing genius came up with this sign????

I wear the UA Heat Gear short-sleeve, compression top under my ice hockey gear. I swear by the stuff. Have two of them. It's so much more comfortable not having a heavy, sweaty, wet cotton T-shirt next to my skin under all of that equipment. The sweat-wicking claims are real.

I've never tried the cold gear, so I can't comment on that.
