That's going to look peculiar.

Why aren't these offered in Kevlar with ceramic plates?

Kevlar coated would be fine. But those plates would make it too rigid, and would allow a deflection rather than absorption of impacts.

Of course, there's a limit to this concept.  At some point, you can't ambulate without a wheelbarrow, or get through doorways, or tie your shoes, or play golf or tennis.
