Informed about a month ago there would be a beef shortage, so I bought 50 lbs of hamburger 80/20 @ 2.29 a lb and 50 Ribeye @ 5.35 a lb. Went to store today and noticed hamburger @ 6.98 a lb and Ribeye @ 20.19 a lb and very little of both. Stopped at Macdonalds for a coke, had a sign, Due to National Beef shortage, please order, salad, chicken or fish.

Bought a whole cow a couple months back. My deep freeze is packed full of hamburger steaks and ribs. That is only half. The other half is in my parents deep freeze. Dupport your local farmers and buy directly from them.

Its nice to have a lot of venison in the can [well actually mason jars]. It lasts for years, its versatile, and most importantly it tastes great. We might be out by October though.

only way to get hamburger under 4 bucks per lb. nowadays is buy a 10lb. tube of it and even that is iffy. Went to the local grocery store today and a pkg. of hamburger was like near 8 bucks per lb. - NO fricking way.
Been eating 95% chicken and pork which is not such a bad thing both can be had for under 3 bucks per lb. still. Even most fish is cheaper than hamburger nowadays.

Interesting how all this is playing out...isn't it? Here's some food for thought. Right wing conspiracy theory? You decide. But if the idea of this doesn't "bug" you...well crap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=175&v=Fhk21aCPt_4&feature=emb_logo

I understand there is some investigating of price manipulation by the packing houses. As usual the farmers/producers are taking a beating along with the consumer at the end of the supply chain.
This has been quite the successful experiment by the Chinese government. However the virus came about, their actions have allowed them to see what the effects of how a major biological attack could affect the world and the worlds reaction to such an event.

Beef shortage could be slowed down not shut down if these packing house would have just used there heads. You keep or find an inspector, get a skeleton crew and bone all the meat and make hamburger. It does not take a full crew for burger meat. The only work is boning it and feed the machine. Do the same for hot dogs. Take the cold tanker truck full of milk into town have people sign a waver and fill there jug. How are people going to act when something really bad happens. Control the people by taking away the utilities.

Ground beef here is between $2.50 and $4.00 per pound. Steaks run from $2.00 to $12.87 per pound.
That's about normal for here.

wow, that is cheap. Love to see ground beef/hamburger be under 4 dollars a lb. around here. Why is it certain parts of the country still have cheap meat vs. others not? supply and demand or ?

The store I purchase my meat from has yellow tag sales. Supposedly even though the expiration date is past the store still sells the supposedly past expiration date at a discount. And to this point in time after thawing something and cooking it up have NEVER gotten a bad piece of meat. I do NOT Need to go meat shopping-I have enough all I gotta did is git my selection from the freezer thaw and cook. Tonight? Boneless K C strip steak. Can't recall how much I paid but if it's in my freezer it had a yellow tag when I bought it. When i buy hamburger i always try to get the Boston Grind it's called here in SoMo. 80% beef and 20% pork sausage. Makes a cursed Good burger! Yeah i also ride with a Butcher here and we agreed this was Gonna Happen-shortages. And sadly with these inflated prices farmers I'm Sure are NOT seeing more profits in their wallets. RIDE SAFE.

That is strange, you are 440 miles from me and 330 miles from OKC, big price difference from you and me. Ribeye and T bone 21.00 lb, what kind of steak for 2.00, hamburger is now 7.25 lb. Glad I stocked up when low.

Glad I stocked up when low. exactly, hamburger under 4 bucks lb. is nowhere to be found in that 80/20 percent like said more like 7-8 bucks per lb. which to me makes it no brainer not paying that kind of price anywhere for one lb. It is not a steak since steaks use to be 6-12 bucks per lb.
