Have a 98 standard for twenty years. Has been desmogged and glass packed. Popping on decel right

side. Four years of labor trying to fix. $1000.00 at Honda for carb work. I am on Long Island,HELP would

be appreciated. The bike runs great,smooth and powerful. 23,000 miles.

All bikes pop on decel, you just hear it more with glass packs. Also could be a tad rich on the mixture screws. If it slight pop I wouldn’t worry about it. If there’s a lot then try screwing in mixture screws about 1/4 turn. I personally wouldn’t go more then 1/2 turn. There’s been a lot of talk about using a temp gun on exhaust to help dial them in.

    My experience is that intake leaks are what cause popping on deceleration...
    Most common to my -'97 Valk have been cracked vacuum nipple caps or hoses, or even holes in these hoses.  Of course, a disconnected hose would also cause major problems, too. 
   Another thing you could check are the o-rings in the tubes between the carbs and the cylinder heads. If you occasionally see leakage around the tube-to-head joint, the o-rings need to be replaced.  Best is to use -122 or -123 American inch based o-rings since they are a little thicker and seal better, Nitrile material.
  According to the Parker o-ring handbook, Nitrile o-rings have a 10 year shelf life and a 20 year service life, after which they get pretty rock-hard, and don't seal so good.  And the same thing goes for Nitrile hoses.

Try replacing the Intake O-Rings and torque according to manufacturer specs. That cured my popping. Although I do not have glass packs. OEM exhaust.
Just my 2 cents.
Good luck and keep the rubber side down.
