Thanks.

And you are correct about the warranty.  The TR-5 has a five year warranty.

Anyway, the difference between the TR-5 and the TC-5 is basically the agitator's motion and the warranty.  The salesman just told me that the TR-5 has the old way of circling one way and then the other while the TC-5 just circles.  Or at least that's what I remember from our conversation.

But basically one is old school process and the other is new school.

The TR-5 has a five year warranty and the TC-5 has a three year warranty.  As least that is what the website says for the vendor I am looking at in Batesburg-Leesville.

Well, we visited a "local" dealer today and after spending about 30 minutes with the salesperson (I let my wife do most of the talking and question asking) she selected the TC5.

The TC5 is being discontinued in the future.  Not sure why but it is the only Speed Queen that has a belt drive.  We discussed this with the sales person, specifically regarding wear and tear and basically, this is what was used in years past on major washing machines.  It allows for the "back and forth" movement of the tub that cannot be done in direct drive machines.

The TR5 is very similar to the TC5 except for the drive mechanism.  What is more interesting is the TC5 cost $50 more.

Oh and the TC5 does not have a "locking lid".

Delivery is next week.

Uh oh, you're doomed.   2funny

(This feature pisses me off because I set the machine and turn it on starting the water (lid up), then add the detergent and any other stuff, then the clothes, then run around the house checking to see if I have any other stuff I forgot (or there's room for).  All of which is accomplished well before the water is finished filling.  The locking lid doesn't like this procedure.)

And in all those years, I never tore off an arm (which I'd probably remember).   crazy2

I think my MIL uses the washer machine that way too.

I put my laundry in the machine, then my detergent, then put my settings  and start the thing and go do something else while it runs. I use the dryer the same way - put the laundry in it, put the settings where I want, then start it and leave it until it buzzes at the end of the cycle - check laundry for being dry, take out or put more time (as appropriate).

I realize it probably all gets mixed in fine, but I like the water and liquid detergent to mix up good before the clothes go in.  There is no mixing to do in the dryer.

(I also realize this is becoming helpful hints from Heloise.)

I'm still getting familiar with my new Whirlpool.  Per experience, I've used it twice in two months.

The new washer was installed yesterday, no issues.

Wife has run several loads through and no issues.  It is a bit noise then the previous one, a Samsung.

The installers, who are associated directly with the place we bought the machine, were good at their job and we had a short discussion.

One of them said he had the same model for a couple of years now.

He also said the the place we purchased the machine from stopped stock Samsung devices (except for TVs) several years ago due to reliability issues.

Yes the capacity is about 25% less than the Samsung it should work out.

am predicting this Speed Queen will probably be the last washing machine you will need.

If not,  keep us posted.

Waiting for all of our 1993 appliances to clunk out all Whirlpool.  So far only the heating element in the electric dryer (easy fix) and heating coil ring in the electric oven clunked out.  I did tear apart the washing machine once and reassembled not sure what I did but it worked again, got lucky....   2funny  Near 30 years on any appliances I say we got our money's worth out of them.

I took the latch off my locking lid. I can open it when ever. I add stuff during the soak and/or wash cycle (when ever I find it).

We just purchased a Maytag washer and dryer from a small independent store and the model we bought came with a 5 year factory warranty. This warranty is not available from the big box stores.
The reason we didn’t buy a Speed Queen is because the size was too small.
My wife wanted to make sure that a king size bed comforter would fit.

Yes, the small size of the Speed Queen washer drum is an issue and I was told that king size bedding would not fit.

My wife has not yet tried any "bedding" from our queen size bed, well sheets have been washed, no issue.

Every time I return to this thread, the machines being talked about don't
sound like the one in the room next to me, so I went over there and took
this picture...

I guess I'd have to look on the back (or in the door?) to see the model number...

FWIW and that is probably less than “my 2 cents”.........more than one appliance repairman has told me over the years to NOT wash large heavy bedding, throw rugs etc in my home washing machine regardless of brand.  Instead, make a trip to my nearest laundromat and use theirs.  I would just be asking for eventual trouble.

I have some 5 big king comforters.  I never use them because I am my own human furnace and can't stand the heat (no PJs neither).  My (new smaller) washer does all the sheets and pillowcases just fine (and the one blanket too, every other year even though it's not dirty).  (I never eat crackers in bed) (and drop the house 7 degrees at night in winter)

But I have taken some nasty stuff up to the laundromat.

The model number is cleverly hidden in the data at the bottom of the lid when opened.  Its in the Product Code.

Well the answer is simple.

Motorcycle riders are the most intelligent people in the world.  Otherwise why would they choose to ride two (or three) wheeled modes of transportation.

I mean consider what needs to take place to be successful at riding a motorcycle.  One has to have the intelligence to keep their eye on the road ahead, make immediate calculations as to how far one can lean into that curve.  Is there an liquid on the road?  Among many other things.

So, when one wants to know the best device for any given purpose, the best place to consult is a motorcycle forum. And, while I have not done any calculations or polls about this, since the Valkyrie is an older bike, (implying the riders here are not in their 20's)  the members of this forum have lots of real world experience, real world knowledge because of what life has given them.

So, yes, this is the best place to ask that question.

I wasn't questioning the appropriateness of the question here... that makes sense.  What I found odd was the longevity of the thread. crazy2

It took that long to get the Washing Machine.  Part of the issue was mine because I was trying to use a local dealer.

And once the decision was made, and a dealer was found that had one in stock, and it was purchased, I thought I'd update the thread.

And besides, its winter and ......

It started raining ice last night.  It took a break for a couple hours, and now it's raining ice again until day after tomorrow.

Ice is the number one reason for power outages around here.

Please don't do that.

In the mean time, they're out there blocking off my driveway again.   cooldude tickedoff
