A customer of mine has a very old flint lock shotgun that had previously been turned into a floor lamp.  I suppose the work was not so good because the base and lamp parts were all missing so my task was to redesign and remake it into a lamp.

I decided the base should look like a repurposed military ammo box so I made an oak box with hand cut finger joints so it wouldn't be all precise like it was done on a power saw.

Then put a top on it and designed a clamping devise to lock in the butt of the rifle

That was not going to be sturdy enough so I bought some steel and bent scrolls in the tops

Then bent them to support the gun

Then took it all apart and stained, painted and got ready for final installation.  Today was the delivery day and final build at the customers house

First the inside of the box where the chord from the gun connects to the auto rewind unit inside the hidden compartment

Then the rest of the build

A nice and interesting job there Jeff.   cooldude

Personally, I'd have spent my time cleaning up the old blunderbuss and hung it on a wall.  And buy a new lamp.  But you have to keep the customer happy.

An old black powder horn (or two) would make a good accessory for that lamp.  They carried two, one with regular black powder, and another smaller one with finer priming pan powder.

I love how the stain brought out the wood grain, makes it so much more appealing to look at.
