I'm liking the hockey but the piped in crowd noise and music is weird.

One announcer said it was because without it, the players can be heard to easily and the language isn't that clean.

At least they didn't use card board cut out fans.

GO BRUINS!!!!

i was told fans paid for the cut outs with the proceeds going to charity.

I think they should pay out $500 to anyone whose sign gets hit with a ball. Just the first 3 in a game.

I went to a boxing match and right in the middle, a hockey game broke out.

Then it's a good thing.  Didn't realize the charity connection.

They took the nets down in the hockey rinks, so maybe same thing if your cut out takes a puck. Smiley

Yeah, Rob, great game but wrong team won.

Malkin looked really flat, but Price was awesome.

Yesh, just joshin' ya big fellow.
My concerns is that the ice surfaces in Toronto and Edmonton won't be able to stand up to the many daily games being played on them.  I noticed it yesterday that there were some bounces and slogging of pucks in the later minutes of periods.  All part of the game, but Edmonton has always been the best ice sheet in the league and I did notice some sloppiness there.
Hoping that Carey Price can steal another one from Pittsburgh today.  These series are sprints to the next round; any team can win a best of 5 for the qualifiers.

Agreed.

Although I could do without the fake fan noise.  I’ve enjoyed UFC with no fans...you get the sounds from the action that you wouldn’t otherwise hear.  I understand why they’re doing it though. Hockey players can have colourful language and it’s on network TV.

Don’t want to derail this hockey thread...but I wish they’d also get rid of the national anthems. It’s an unneeded distraction/political BS. I can understand anthems at the Olympics where they’re actually playing for their country, but these guys aren’t.

With most of the other professional sports in the "We hate America" column, was hoping Hockey might rise above it, I'm a fair weather Dallas Stars fan, but nope, they couldn't do it..... Pisses me off, even they had to piss all over the countries they live in...

(Yeah, I'm not big on sportsball in general, but always kinda had a interest in Hockey, but nope, I'm out...)

It always cracks me up when we drive past the hockey rink in Key West.

But, any sport now where there is kneeling going on, I'm gone.

The fan noise is pretty stupid. I thought the girl throwing out hats for Svechnikof’s (sp.) hat trick was even dumber.

You are right about the anthems. To be even about it, we should be hearing Russian, Swedish, Fin's, etc. every game.

Same here, I was really hoping that hockey would be spared but apparently it hasn't been, so therefore I sadly say goodbye to hockey.. and baseball. The NFL has been off my radar for quite some time now, and the NBA was never on it.

As much as I enjoyed going to Tropicana to watch the Rays, once one takes a knee I'm gone. The other sports are already off my list, but, pretty much have been anyway. Maybe the only one left is Lacrosse, I watched a game recently and I saw no one kneeling.

I never tire of "O Canada", a magnificent anthem in words and spirit.  I wish they would sing it in French when Montreal is playing (they are le Club de Hockey Canadien); Les Quebecois are their heart and soul.

Last night's game and defeat of Pittsburgh was due to them carrying out a relentless forecheck for three periods and keeping Crosby off of his game.  Price was there when he had to be and they came back from being down 3-1.  Penguins were stunned and the TV announcers were a bit silenced when the siren sounded.  The franchise can break the long drought of playoff disappointments and give us fans of the rouge, blanc, et bleu something to cheer about. Cool

Just never understood anthems prior to games. What does a game have to do with the country and it’s anthem?  I don’t sing the anthem when I wake up in the morning, before a meal or before a morning dump. All important events, certainly, but not worthy of an anthem singing any more than some sports game.

Before a Remembrance Day ceremony, certainly, I’ll stand with pride and respect. A hockey game...meh.

PS. Habs suck.

PSS. Quebec sucks.

And yes, I realize the irony of an Oilers fan saying another team sucks.  Grin

They traded the greatest player ever to play and still won the cup the year after they traded him. Counter punch. The jersey is over his head. He’s wobbled.

And Quebec still sucks.  Frenchie’s down for the count and being scraped off the ice.

Thats a good point worth looking at I guess. I never gave the Anthem much thought, just considered it as patriotic and tradition. Its want what has always been done. Maybe we don't need it. Maybe that'll solve the problem.

Lol

Admittedly, I wasn’t an Oilers fan in their hay day. They were too good to cheer for. I prefer rooting for a team that’s mired in decades of misery, which is why I cheer for them now.

And yes...Gretz was the best scorer with incredible vision...but I prefer a grittier player as well.  Give me a team from that era full of Dougie Gilmours and Wendel Clarks, I’d have been a fan. cooldude

Leafs and Oilers lose and are out....all is right  Smiley  The two  most self-absorbed fan bases. One thinks they're the Centre of the hockey universe even though the team hasnt even come close to winning anything since '67, and the other still has the nerve to call themselves the City of Champions after all these years of futility  even with all those first overall draft choices.

Canadiens....best team in the history of the NHL, and had the best teams ever...at least twice! Classiest exciting players to ever play the game...Lafleur and Beliveau.
And yes....the Bruins have been my least favorite team forever (just edging out the Leafs), but #4 Bobby Orr is still the best player in the history of the league, bar none. And right up there in the class department with the Flower and Big Jean as well.

I'm looking forward to a full day of hockey. It's supposed to be 114* today, and I've about had enough of it.  tickedoff

Game of the day?  I'm gonna choose Bruins vs. Hurricanes, both physical teams that don't seem to like unwanted contact with others.  A couple of good top lines from each, with Pastrnak (may not play) as always a serious threat in the attacking zone. Very good goaltending at both ends of the rink.  Worth the watch.Tossup as to who takes Game 1.

114*?   Top temperature in our last month was 104.5* on our digital thermometer; another 10* on top of that?  No sir, no thank you. Cry
Stay cool, calm, and collected in your own space,  Dr. Meat.  Wink

snuggle the damn hockey faggots, they are kneeling, joining forces with BLM, de-fund the police, support the looting burning piece of poop losers. snuggle them and the Zamboni they rode in on.
It never fails to surprise me the ignorance of some. By all means don't watch if you are put off by it.

Cry

I`ve seen so many great games so far, at this point I expect them all to be epic. (I`m not sure butchers can be catergorized in the doctor family)

It's a fine line.  Some doctors can easily be categorized in the butcher family.   Wink
