There's a good story in the Wall Street Journal about
Kamala Harris' mother, Shyamala Gopalan.

Ms. Gopalan fled India to the United States to escape
oppression. She is from a smaller Indian caste known as
"Tambrams".

Ms. Gopalan's story is just one of many that "undercuts many of the pieties
of the U.S. left. How do you characterize America as a land of oppression
when so many immigrants have clearly experienced it as a land of opportunity?
"

Mike,

I agree.  In saying that, what has always (well at least in the last 10 - 20 years) amazed me is the immigrants who come here for the very reasons you stated.  It is a land of opportunity,

Opportunity exists because of the very foundation of our republic (not democracy but a "representative republic").  That foundation makes us what and who we are as a country.

People from other countries come here because of the opportunities that a represtantive republic provide, but, in many cases, fail to assimilate into the philosophies  that made us what we are.

In failing to embrace the "America" standards and ethics and beliefs they tend to bend us back toward the vary standards and beliefs and customs that made the place they immigrated from a place they wanted to leave.

I fully understand the desire to maintain the "old ways" in the "new world".  But......   it will not work.

Yep.  That's not only true of foreign immigrants, but also immigrants from CA, NY and other socialist enclaves within our country.

Jess, yes you are correct.  They leave places like New York and California because of what the states/cities have become and when they get to their new place, they never bother to ask the needed questions.

What happened to the place I just left?
Why did I leave?
Why did I move here?
What part did I play in making the place I just left what it is/became?

THIS my Friend is called truth seeking. BUT the transplants generally speaking wont bother and Insist on bringing the beginnings of failure with them and implement old ideals in their new to them home. RIDE SAFE.
