I've seen that one also. Raising four girls kept me on my toes, back when you only had one phone in the house and a single cord that limited its movement. My wife got sick in the middle of the night once so I got up for a trip to the kitchen for something to help settle her stomach and stepped on what felt like a phone cord. Turning on the light, I saw a super long extension going into an adjacent bedroom....along with some murmuring low tones from inside. Yes, we had a "phone curfew" since we all had to get up early for work or school, but one enterprising young lady had found a source for longer cords so as to carry on social contacts beyond curfew.
I said nothing but the next night after all was quiet, I installed a "Y" in the base phone which allowed me to listen in. Nothing as personal as the condom question came up....thankfully....but after a few minutes I simply interjected "the time is 11:30pm, well past curfew." I never said another word, and said nothing the next day about it....in fact it was never brought up. The extension cord disappeared and so did my "Y"....I guess a silent understanding had ensued.
