I just got a 2001 red/black I/S.  I am adding a terminal block for accessories.

Where is the best place to tap a trigger wire that kicks out when starting?  The blue/white wire?  Where is the best place to tap into it?  Under the tank at the front of the frame neck?  Or elsewhere?

Thank you very much.

That'll do it, but most people use the white/black accessory feed to trigger it.

I use the provided trigger wire for my accessory board and the blue/white wire that cuts out with headlights for my extra lighting   Cool Enjoy the new ride!

The lower drawing for you to have the accessory turn off with the start button.  The switch shown is optional.

OK, but where is the best place to access the wire on an Interstate?  On my std, I accessed it in the headlight bucket.

Where on the IS?

Thanks.

Like the Tourer and Std. under the right side cover??  You want an accessory fuse panel, use those wires to trigger a power relay. The relay applies power to the accessory fuse panel, I tapped the power off the input side of the main strip fuse with an inline fuse to the accessory panel. Here's my panel in its original form, I've since expanded it with a larger fuse panel and cleaned it up a lot...this one looks rather tacky. It's only hot when I turn the key on, and as for my driving lights...I have a separate relay for them totally apart from the headlight circuit. That way if something in the headlight circuit goes south, I still have my driving lights to get me home.

John:
Nice pic.  I also tapped the input on the main fuse for power, and fused that lead.  Am looking for where to tap a trigger wire that goes out when the starter is used on a I/S.

MP, I use the blue/white headlight wire to switch mine but I've got a Tourer.  Let me call a buddy with an I/S and ask how he has his wired.  It'll be tomorrow before I can get back to you with an answer.

Found the blue/white wire to trigger the relay.  Removed the right front fairing panel, and found it there.  Ran a wire back to the relay.
Thanks.

MP, talked with my buddy.  He's got two auxiliary fuse blocks on his I/S.  He's got both on 40 amp relays from the main fuse.  He triggers the relays with the auxiliary leads.  He runs 10 ga wires from the main fuse through the relays to the aux fuse blocks.  The one under the side cover is on a piece of hinged lexan while the wire for the front is run up right side of the frame to the fuse block in the fairing.  Hope this helps.
