When I was being initially trained for the Air Force, they brought in a guy (a serving Col) who had been a pilot who was shot down and did years in the Hanoi Hilton (and suffered their privation and torture).  He told us when Miss Fonda came to Hanoi, he was told he was going to meet her (with other prisoners) for an on-camera interview (propaganda).  He declined, and told them that sort of thing was prohibited by the Hague and Geneva Conventions (it is).  They beat him with a ball peen hammer (and fractured his skull) until he agreed to meet her on camera anyway.  He suffered serious injuries from his F4 ejection, and never saw a doctor for 6 years of imprisonment.  

There is no statute of limitations requiring forgiveness for that kind of thing.

A lot of us came to believe that was a bad and highly mismanaged war losing 68K men for no clear purpose with no clear objective of winning, and expressed our thoughts in peaceful first amendment activities here at home (while never disrespecting our military or servicemen, though many did).

But we did not directly provide aid and comfort to a murderous, godless, torturing enemy like Miss Fonda did.
