Just had another one of our argu, errrr, discussions with a local liberal friend regarding renewable resources. Of course he thinks fossil fuels of every type need to be banned immediately. Can't have a decent discussion with them. Try to talk to them or show them a few videos such the above, there are quite few, and they completely dismiss such arguments. Yet they can't explain their positions, they just know fossil is bad and renewable is good. And I don't have any more hair to pull out.

Well, if they can read, and have any desire to become informed, they can look at the following write up on so called "renewable energy" (and as I have said, they are not renewable, they exist, the name has been made up to imply they will always be there, which also is not true).

Biofuels are renewable.

Biofuels = burning trees.

If we ran the country on "biofuel", all the trees would be gone in a
year.

Sure. They'd grow back one day  cooldude ...

AS the professor said in his U-Tube, renewables won't work.   With our present technology, not enough electricity will be produced to supply energy to our country, unless we cover land the size of Texas with panels/windmills.  That will supply energy while the sun is shinning and wind is blowing.  One has to remember that windmills need winds between a certain wind speed, under they don't work, over they shut down.  AND that 8 hour (average) a day for solar is all you can count on.

If you live in a city away from the lands where these wind/solar farms will be installed you probably don't understand how big is big.   You don't understand the size, until you actually stand in front of one of them and realize the impacts it is having on the environment.

I have ridden past several solar farms in our area.  Totally single use.   I also wonder how much electricity was produce in the last month due to the smoke in our area.   Not only southern OR but in CA where they are suppose to be going totally renewables smoke have been really thick.

Recent storms near Fairbury, IL, where a friend lives, broke off one of the vanes on quite a few turbines.

Ooops no electricity.

A quick search reveals it's not uncommon.

We've had wind mills in our area for 20+ yrs. And they are not without their issues. Yep, they break blades and also catch fire. They also look like hell.

An aside, I like asides. There is a row of them along a ridge top a few miles from a little country airport with a good diner we like to go to for breakfast. First time we took one fella as I started down he looked at those wind mills right in front of us and stated his concern. I just mentioned it wasn't an issue, but, it was his responsibility to time the blades and let me know when I could scoot in between 2 of them. He didn't think that was very funny.
