I guess there is different shades and different tastes in maple syrup. Anyone here swear that x from y is the best and I need to try it?   A rare day on the porch, church closed and online services only and the wife made me pancakes!  I haven’t had pancakes in a while.  I have syrup from two friends one Ohio and one collected from Vermont. I don’t see a huge difference in taste. There is nothing like the real deal.

When I was still in a big truck I've purchased Pure Maple Syrup where ever and when ever I could find it in New England. Now retired I've tried Pure Maple Syrup from my local grocer wally wurld and Aldi. I personally can Not detect any difference in flavor. The syrup from Aldi states product of U S A and Canada. Also states on the bottle Grade A light amber rich taste. Every time I check price the per ounce price IS a bit less at Aldi. Friends of ours run a Maple tapping  business in Southern NY mountains.  They owned the land for a long time but their son while going to Pharmacy School tapped all the trees and created a really nice Maple Syrup business.  It has been going for about 10 years now.  Syrup is great.  They also take the syrup and create a cream spread.  Best thing I've ever tasted.  He sends a good portion of his stuff into Scandinavia.  Long term contracts.  It is expensive stuff but when we go up to visit family or friends always have to stop and get some.

I started tapping trees in the 70s. Some folks say there is no difference between it and corn syrup, personally they just don't get it. There is nothing like the real thing. Its a lot of work [ 40/1 ] but it smells and tastes great. The more its boiled down the darker, keep on going and it becomes candy.

This time of year is for squeezing apples and letting them ferment.

Parke County here Indiana is a producer of maple syrup locally to me. They have a festival of a sort's during the season. Cool to see them do the process as all the tap's and transfer lines run down to the boil down shack. Smells so good. I would venture to say all tastes about the same unlike honey of different regions/variants.

My wife has made this spread a couple of times, her parents were Amish until early teens and she grew up with literally 100s of Amish family members.  She learned from them how to make it.  They call it Schmeah tsukka.

There is no comparison from the fake to the real stuff.

I think they have 3 grades all grade A, light, medium and dark. I tried the medium and its good but my favorite is the light. I don't think I would like the dark since the darker you go the taste is more, woody, its the only way I can describe it, since I have no other taste comparison quite like it. The light is equivalent to the store bought stuff, but with much better taste and no after taste. They also have maple cream.

This place is in Northern Mass just below Vermont a great store to visit if your ever in the area. You may have to call them to order since the online wont accept anything but local pick up. I called and they shipped no problem at all.

Hager’s Farm Market is a family owned and operated farm stand and restaurant on Route 2 in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. We are a 7th generation family farm nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires, offering maple products from our 13,000 taps, grass-fed beef, fresh local produce, home-made baked goods, and wide variety of sandwiches, soups, and daily lunch specials.

I mix it into the batter when I am making french toast, waffles or pancakes.

Sounds interesting.

Lots of places make it here in the NE. Here's one version of it:

https://bensmaplesyrup.com/products/maple_cream?variant=1163091069&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2019-07-30&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5eX7BRDQARIsAMhYLP8_NdoZWmbFvCHra_K3gwLDl5EsMVAefm1bq1rUisXXWZ_AtDMS-rEaAhH_EALw_wcB

Living here in MA, I can get fresh maple syrup in an hour's drive. The maple cream is pretty fantastic. But the maple candy... oh damn... if you aren't diabetic, you will be. Well, it's probably better for you than white sugar, but it tastes so good, it has to be killing you in some way or another. As far as the syrup goes, though, I don't know if Vermont can be beat. I'll keep looking though.

Not wholly on topic but I always got some chuckles during my rides through Vermont seeing signs in every other little town for the world's largest maple syrup museum.

One time i went to the place I buy the Maple syrup from to see the place and how it was made. It was beautiful, but don't ever stick your face over the vats that are boiling off the syrup  Shocked.

As long as it does not have Carmel colored maple flavored corn syrup, it's going to be good.

I live by and have lived in Geauga County Ohio which is largely known for it's maple products around these parts. We have a Maple Festival where they have a permanent hot house so you can see it being made. The maple stirrers are really good. It's basically a soft candy. I have bought their syrup, also from different venders from the area at our local fair and we have made our own over a wood fire. I didn't taste any big differences. The days of constant boil sure do smell good though.

Middlefield Cheese co-op at 16942 Kinsman Rd, Middlefield, OH 44062 sells or did sell the maple spread.  Middlefield is where my wife’s grew up in the Amish community until 12 years old.    We have ridden the area on a borrowed Shadow.  Nice area.

I tried a coworkers homemade maple syrup and I was hooked. Since then I haven't had that fake syrup from the store. My wife buys real maple syrup from Sam's club.  Good stuff. More expensive but worth it....

My wife and I aren't "snobs" when it comes to anything.  We're not ones to run out for latest of anything.  If you see a designer name on something we own, it was definitely a gift.

With that said, we both love the Butter Pecan flavored syrup at the International House of Pancakes.  And it tastes the same in Hartsdale, NY as it does in Delray Beach, FL.

And it's pronounced Pee*Can, damnit ! ! !   coolsmiley

My granddad had a " Pee*Can" under the edge of his bed. Evidently it saved him a trip to the outhouse in the middle of the night.   Grin

I always heard it was Pee Con or Pa Can never pee can. That was in Texas and Alabama.

In the parts of Oklahoma and Kansas I grew up in, and for sure in southern Louisiana, it's pronounced: pe-cahn.  A pee can is what grandpa called the chamber pot grandma kept for night time use.  Got to agree with Ridingron on that one.

Way back in my honeymoon days, the wife and I considered maple syrup.  But we decided on baby oil.

So I don't have an opinion on maple syrup.  Other than it's much better on pancakes than baby oil.

Our family made a trip to Calabogie to ski some 20 yrs ago.  Roll Eyes It was a first snow skiing experience for the twins. It was beautiful up there and pretty COLD by night time. Shocked We were there a week so didn't ski everyday.  We did make a trip to a active maple syrup harvesting business. Pretty neat set up but being so cold during the winter season of course none was flowing. However the business had a nice country store selling all maple products. We took back to Florida as much as we could of candy and real maple syrup.  smitten I could tell the difference.  coolsmiley
