Search this forum for similar threads.
Plug the hole with an OEM I/S sending unit. Then wire in a fuel gauge. I detailed what I did for my Tourer in one of those threads.

I have an old sensor unit that has been stripped leaving only the blank off plate. It's yours if you want it. You will need to buy a new O-ring. Message me with address if you want it.

A flat piece of 1/8" steel with appropriate holes and the right size O-ring will do it. Simple & it works on my Deerslayer for about 20 years now.

Why not make it functional, only fuel sender and gauge needed.

I have a 2014 Valk with a gauge and also a 97. I like using my trip meter and reserve as a gas gauge more than I like the actual gauge on the 2014. Just got used to doing it that way, I guess... -Mike

Trip meters can accidentally be reset, can stick upon operation and so forth. A properly set up gauge can't. Gauges can accidentally be overlooked, or short out and cause your bike to catch on fire and so forth. Reserve reminds you if you forget to watch the trip meter -Mike

I have 9.6 gallon capacity with I/S & belly tanks on Jade. Unless on a road trip, I always buy pure gas. Try to run the tanks down low periodically. When doing that I send the BT fuel up to the main when I have over 100 miles on the ticker. Range is over 300 miles. No fuel gauge, always use the odometer on refueling. Never need to use the reserve - never get that low. But it's there if needed. I don't trust fuel gauges; they are never linear. I use the odometer for fuel range on my cars too.

A properly set up gauge can't. why are u letting people touching your scoot and resetting your trip meter? Go wash and wax your bike. Let the towel spin the knob accidentally. Or...as used to happen with my 2000 Tourer, occasionally the trip meter would hang at 99.9. Not a big deal with a larger tank or if you catch it soon into the ride, but a VERY big deal if you aren't paying close attention. My '99 will sometimes hang at 09.9 but that's rather insignificant. As far as an earlier post concerning fuel gauge wiring: I haven't see that problem with the stock I/S fuel gauge and I certainly don't see a problem with a properly designed and installed aftermarket implementation of same. Mine's been on my '99 Tourer for 12 years sans issues.

I know this is an old thread, I am still looking.
Does anyone know where I can get a known good fuel unit for a '99 Interstate?
I hope there is at least one out there!

Call Pinwall Cycle in Ohio. (unless you feel like sorting through a thousand pages of parts, which is never up to date with everything they may have) https://pinwallcycle.com/

Y'all are great - I'll check in the am - I did look at eBay and didn't see anything though. Maybe I am not using the right search name, I was looking for fuel unit by part number.

Thanks again!

Glad to help Mike.
I suck at auto electric, but I seem to recall reading that the interstate fuel sending unit works with the wires reversed from most all other vehicle/motorcycle sending units.
From a quarter tank down (on both my interstates), I rely more on my trip meter than my led bar fuel gauge. It starts flashing (just) before reserve, and is no longer a gauge, just an annoying flashing light.
The moment I hit reserve (supposedly 1.1gal), I reset my #2 tripmeter to 0 and conservatively figure I have 30 miles to find gas. (I also lighten up on the throttle, unless I know where the gas is.)

I've not ridden mine in a couple of years, the last tag decal is likely 2016, being stored in the garage and not ridden was the demise of the tank I am sure. There was so much rust build up inside there was no fuel flow. The tank has had the rust removed, and coated (guaranteed for life of tank) but the sending unit is toast. Whether I ride it or not is up in the air, I need it functioning fully, no matter what direction I go.

Well, lost the really nice one by about 20 minutes making a deal for combined shipping. Should have just bought the silly thing straight out. There is a rusty but functioning one also, I'm debating... And no joy with Pinwall

Made a cover plate out of aluminum. Cut square plate, drill 4 holes, bolt to tank with new O ring (Honda 91305-MC7-000), ALL DONE! ED
