Whats your job

As I'm still new to this forum,I was curious to know what you all do or did for employment.

I've seen on some other topics that threads have to be Valk related  so here's my effort

I ride my Valk   to carry out my job as a Quality Inspector for the British sportscar manufacturers Lotus Cars.
It's not as glamorous as it seems,quite boring and frustrating really.

There is a "new" Lotus that has just been built "The Evora",,This will be hitting the shores of the USA in the very near future.

I'm in IT. Started as a computer operator in 74 for a "Plant and Vegetable Seed Company" and 35 years & 7 companies later I am a Sr. Support Analyst for one of the largest gas utility companies in the country. Over that time I've been an Application Programmer (cobol), Systems Analyst, Software Support Analyst, DBA, Systems & Programming Manager, Client Server Developer, Application System Administrator and a Unix System Administrtor. As someone once said ... "What a long strange trip it has been."

I work as a HVAC supply warehouse clerk.  It is an easy job for someone older who may never retire as long as my health is good.

I hope that new Lotus doesn't have as many problems as the car and motorcycle I once owned which were built in Great Britain.  Of course, my current Pontiac has its problems as well.

I've owned my Valk for 10 years and looking to owning it for years to come.

Retired from my first job in 1996 as a LEO in London UK. Got bored and went back to work in IT and retired for the second time in December 2005. Now living in happy retirement in Spain and currently re-building a Valk.

Tug Boat Captain on the Texas coast we fuel the ships that come into port in the Houston Galveston area on the boat for 2 weeks and off for 1 so a few riding days for me !!!

I am a purchasing manager for Basic Energy Services, I buy and arrange transportation for all the oil field chemicals, hydrochloric acid and cement we use in the 2 Kansas yards. I also process accounts payable for our yard as we are one person short in the office.  I have had this job for 5 years now. I became a Valkyrie Interstate owner about 6 months ago.  I also ride a 2006 Yamaha Roadliner and drive a 2008 Green Bullitt Mustang with a few mods. I usually do all of my own repair work.

  I retired in February of this year. Worked at Caterpillar as a quality engineer and left with 36 years. Now I drive a courtesy van for a local car dealer 3 days a week ... at least for the winter. After that, I am not sure how much riding time I will give up for that job!

I worked in Quality for 17 years in the Automotive Industry was in & out of lot vehicle assembly plants (Ford, GM, Chrysler, Honda) they sent the buisness over seas so the past year my job is been looking for a job    - I may just go ahead and retire    I hate to do that  sometimes you just got to do what ya got to do

Electronic Tech for AT&T at present.  Who knows what the name will be next week.   It seems that there are a lot of buyouts and mergers happening every day.  I started out as a telephone equipment installer with Western Electric in 1967, they were the manufacturing and supply arm of the Bell System.  Got laid off in 1975 and worked for Alltel/Windstream for 21 years and now work for AT&T for the last 10 years.  Hope to retire some day and RV around the U.S. and see all of this beautiful country on the Valk Interstate.

I retired in 1991 from my job as Environmental Test Associate engineer in military electronics manufacturing.
I also was a registered Xray tech and a VW 'Beetle" tech.

I presently serve on the local Board of Works after serving 15 years as a councilman after retirement.

The Lotus is a neat sportscar but the reliability isn't quite there yet.  Of course I'm prejudiced since I drive a Miata.

Been doing EMS since 97-98. Construction on my days off since 94. Last 3 yrs work EMS at the track in Indy, 500, MOTOGP, and Brickyard. Vol FF also. Working on moving to SD so who knows what i'll be doing in 3 yrs.

 I work for http://www.sunnen.com/as a machinist since 1996, making one off parts or specials . We manufacture honing machines and related supplies. At one time pretty much just produced items for engine Mfg. but anymore all mfg. calls for such tight tolerancing .We make hones for the oil industry ,medical equipment ,windmill ,Aviation ,and all the Motorcycle mfg co.  Glad to have a job ,we produce a lot of stuff for manufacturing companys ,and not much of that happening right now .

in my past life i was an sound tec and worked with everyone from chubby checker to garth brooks i worked for an sound and lighting company in mich and traveled all over the usa and canada with many old groups in the summer time we did mainly outside shows across the usa.in the winter we did corp shows and repaired the equipment for the next year . i got the job by accident they needed some wiring done in some sound and lighting racks and i was asked to help out for a few days and ended up working their for over 15 years until the owner  sold out to a company in minnesota i moved there and trained people to setup and wire shows for six months and moved back to mi. i too two years off and  now i work for waste management drove transfer truck from the recycle building to the landfill for two years and then went in to maintenance and have been there for 13 years now i dont work on the trucks much but work with customers and do compactor repair and do  safety,d.e.q. compliance too i just put in my time and the funny part was i got this job when my friend kicked a deer with his foot that jumped out in front of him while he was on his hd bike broke his leg ..no damage was done to the bike

I run (or ruin ) the maintenance department for a medium size industrial laundry. Only one guy works for me so I'm a hands-on mechanic/electrical tech and spend as little time as possible behind a desk.

Worked for the CHiP for 30+ years, as a motor officer about 28 of those years.    Was stationed from the South end of California to the top end, where I retired from in 1986.   Too young to draw a retirement so moved back to Iowa and went into the IT field.    One day I woke up and I was a Programmer, didn't even know how to spell it, then I was a Systems Analyst, and to make a long story short, when I retired from that job 10 years later, I was the Department head.   Made a lot of changes, and in the past 12 years, 90% of those changes are still in effect.

I'm currently a Senior Quality Control Inspector for a major energy company.  I started out as a sailor on a Fleet Ballistic Missile submarine and then went to work as an Instrument and Control technician at a mid-western nuclear power plant.  I recently retired from the Army Reserve after 24 years and have probably about five more years before I can retire from the day job and ride all summer long.

RJ I am assuming that you are joking about the "can't spell Programmer" line...however there are places where this actually exists.
I had many Department heads at IBM that probably couldn't spell programmer, they called them PDM's (Professional Development Managers).  They hadn't a clue what I did, which made them uniquely qualified to give me my yearly reviews.

The most amusing story however came after I left IBM during my time at Caterpillar.  A manager responsible for our servers infrastructure sent a memo corporate wide discussing a problem with our "Lennox" (Linux) servers.  For a myriad of reasons this individual couldn't be fired, however it didn't take but about 3 months until they were moved to a place were they simply collected a check and were never heard from again.

I do contract work for Cadence technologies,we do work for the food industry,80% of my work is for Coca Cola,travel all through out north america,mexico,central and south america. I often take 3 to 4 months off in a row during the summer,makes for a great riding schedule.

Currently I support the Office of Air and Marine in Homeland Defense's Customs and Border Protection division.  It's all very interesting, but not as exotic as it sounds on the surface.  I hope to give it up and go back to the family farm in about 3 years or so.
