I like my alone rides since I kind of just set out and say where are we going today and see where the road goes. When you start to plan a destination then you may be tempted to set a time which is not on my list of to do things. I love meandering through areas uncovering new things and just enjoying the wind, sound and smells. Food is always part of the ride and knowing the places to go to get good food and sit and relax makes the trips much more enjoyable. When in a group or with friends I am always aware of where they are in the ride and of their desires and for me this is a distraction.

I love DDT idea that we get there when we get there, that really says it all.

When it comes to riding, for me it's like life in general as I like to keep things simple. I only have a few close friends and of those, the only one that rides is now in Kentucky.

Taking long Road trips at this point in my life isn't possible, though I'm hoping to take some as circumstances change. 99% of the riding I do is alone or with my girl.

I am open to the experience of riding with others but don't seek out companionship on the road. It may sound strange to some but when riding alone, especially out in beautiful natural areas, I feel in tune with nature and God. Riding with others takes that Focus away.

Who knows what the future will bring.

Robert,

There are so many aspects to riding and so many variations and differing combinations that come to define our views of what we 'prefer'! We love it all, however... Most of us, certainly this rider and I suspect you as well, very much enjoy and treasure the peace, serenity, and a clearer head for contemplating important subjects uniquely available with this venue...

Physical stimulation, but also that very clear departure from the norm (our ruts and routines) for us automatically included in the simple act of riding. In the end, though, it all boils down to whatever combination at any given point in time floats our particular 'boat'... We all 'love the water'... just in somewhat different ways and/or different types of 'vessel'...

Without a doubt I totally agree, you can be at home watching tv and life pass you by or you can be on the road with an adventure and story and watch scenery pass you by.

While my mother would never let me have a motorcycle when I was younger being out in a boat and on the ocean and all over the bays and inlets was ok. When I was not at school or working to earn money for gas and certain other things I was out in the boat. I would spend many hours just cruising around in my boat so I guess that kind of extended over to riding when I bought my 01 Valk when I was older. I loved being out on the water had many adventures and so it is with the Valk, both of them.

Doesn't really matter how you do it as long as you get out and do it. Hope all is well with you or as well as can be expected under current circumstances.

I think you are like me being stationary for to long seems strange regardless of the reason. Look forward to hearing some great rides and thoughtful insights soon.

After seeing the title of this thread again, it dawned on me, how advantageous of me to have no style. Probably never have. Really, it's done me pretty well.  Smiley

Robert,

Interesting remarks! I too came to riding from a previous 'life on the water'... I also share your view of long-term stationary drudgery! I certainly do have a raging case of cabin fever already, and I'm nervously chomping at the bit to get back out there... Oh well... all in due course... In time, I hope to be back aboard our girl making new memories and stories... perhaps even reporting on them here, too... Thanks for sharing your insights!

Rob,

No 'style' or preference at all? If you say so... I do see that being wide-open flexible reduces artificial barriers and unnecessary boundaries for a rider, though, particularly when it comes to sharing adventures with others.

I believe it may also offer some philosophical attraction for some, as well, because of the lack of constraints or tendency we have for falling into habits and patterns... Everything is in front of us, and experimenting with all yields the wonderous rewards of variety and breadth!

So, in that respect I see much merit in your opinion of what is best for you... I also see the practical appeal of maximum range of ride variations... a sure way to avoid ruts, routines, and staleness! I suppose in reality we all practice that to at least some degree... OK, now I think I get your statement... and, thanks for that, too!  coolsmiley

Rob,

Ah, the devil is in the details! As I now understand your comment, I confess to easily seeing, and identifying, with your meaning! Heck, I'm no slave to fashion either... Like with you, that too has served me quite well, indeed... A suit & tie or loin cloth and sandals...? No problem! Alas, formal attire has never been much needed, and I am a bit too self-conscious to embrace nudity, other than those, however...  cooldude

When I was in my 20's I worried about what others thought of me.
When I was in my 40's I did not care about what they thought of me.
Now in my mid 60's I realize they never thought about me.  Wink

Randy,

Yeppers, vanity and self-consciousness are usually tougher task masters than the actual interest of others. Clever observations you mention... I hadn't considered those things in that way before... Thanks!
