There's recently been some discussion of replacement steering head bearings.  Adjusting my OEM beearing reduced the wobble significantly, but it is still noticable around 90 mpi and up.  Are tapered roller bearings better than OEM? If so, can anyone recommend one for my '99 IS?

OEM bearings are tapered roller bearings.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

All balls racing has good bearings.

You should be able to get them at BC Bearing they will be in the phone book for the Lower Mainland.  If you tell the counterman what you want you are doing with the bearings they will get you some that suit - they may be available with the same ID and OD but have a different roller spec. for high load, impact applications etc.

FYI

In the past, I have installed a Timken 32006X lower steering stem bearing instead of the OEM unit.
I have tried to locate a generic upper one but the I.D. was too small. I have been told that there is no generic replacement for the upper stem bearing because Honda had the I.D. set at 26 mm. The standard for that bearing number would normally be with a 25 mm I.D.

Thanks all (especially fudgie).  I've contacted all balls racing (allballsracing.com).  They have bearing kits for the Valk, so I'm going to give it a try.  Certainly can't hurt.  Will report back once I try them out.

Do not want to knock you off the bearing idea but have you checked your upper shock bushings? I had a highspeed wobble and bought some bushings from VTX etreme talk to Darryl solved my wobble and the rear bushings are known to go bad..

Thanks for that.  Yeah, I already replaced the rear bushings -- didn't make much difference.  Great looking bike, identical to mine  Smiley
