Just lookin’ at all them dang nab, lazy, incompetent government people riding Valks.  And, holymoly… some of them are CONTRACTORS… sucking on the government tit… and no doubt selected by some incompetent, double dealing government employee!.  God forbid any of these guys should get near health care... oops... some of them are in health care.

(Kidding, people – just noting that a lot of our Valk brothers are employed or contracted by government, do good jobs, and if it weren’t for them, a lot of necessary services would be missing).  It’s easy to criticize government in the abstract, much harder to do when you realize you know the people working in it.

Damn you SE. Was a good thread till you tried to politicize it.

Unemployed home builder because the dang banks that are regulated by the dang gov't were forced to make dang "predatory" lending part of their practice, while they, the govt, create debt at our expense, lend fiat money, and created fractional banking which will be the downfall of our economy, and which has all but destroyed the fortunes of many homebuilders, subcontractors, suppliers, etc. but the govt workers still get theirs. Nothing against anyone personally but SE thinks all is well no matter what befalls the rest of us that support the government workers. And the dang banks get bailed out while we fall to the wayside. Sorry for the rant but some like SE can't see the whole story cause they live in their own little world and think we can't make it without the govt up our arses.

"Pete – College instructor and sold into government"  What..............
For the record 1970-1976 college employed - TN state government  - learned my lesson.
1962-1970 and 1975-2009 all NON government.   Private industry and private education

Don't really like my name and government in the same sentence.
Government is the bane of a free person.

Not sure what sold into government means??? Thanks Pete.

I ignore him, his opinion of me could not possibly be of any less concern to me. I have served my state for 33 years, I work hard and I think I am contributing to the safety of not only the general public but also ensuring that truck owners can't force drivers to drive junk. Well, maybe I am kind of offended, Hey Squawking Eagle, take a long drive off a short pier. Then a cop (city or county or state) could come and jump in and save your sorry rear, by that time EMS ( county or city) will be there to haul ou to the local public hospital (county or city) and treat you. We know you aren't kidding because we know how you think.

I've read this a few times now.  I'm not sure if it's a pat on the back, or bust in the chops.
If its a pat on the back; on behalf of every worker, coast to coast - south to north, who serves the public - Thanks.
If its a bust in the chops; on behalf of every worker - . . .  - You don't know what you don't know.
To pay tribute to the highway worker I'd have to write a book - I could, but I won't.
On behalf of every public servant worker - an original thought comes to mind . . .

It didn't get politicized until you went off on your diatribe (above).  So many folks here are always bashing government, with nothing positive to say, just like you do.

I wrote my piece in SUPPORT of those people who work for the government or contract for it.  Real people, folks... not out to pull down the country like stormrider seems to think, but people who provide valuable services, without which this country would grind to a halt.

They work at every level of government.  They build and maintain roads, bridges, parks, and buildings.  They keep the IT systems going.  They provide military, police, and fire protection.  They keep the books.  They fix the vehicles.  They build the weapons and space vehicles.  They teach our children.  And so much more.  That IS a face of government that I never see celebrated here.

And stormrider you know NOTHING of what I see or don't see or think or don't think.

Happy New Year

My comprehension skills are quite sharp, thanks. You were implying that folks who work for the gov't are hypocritical if they are opposed to socialized medicine. Quite the opposite, because of my 33 yrs experience in state gov't I am more sure than ever that I do not want any gov't in control of my health care. I can take a joke and if it weren't for the statement " God forbid any of these guys should get near health care... oops... some of them are in health care ", I would have probably seen the humor in it.

I'm all about reading everyone’s take on issues. As a rule I enjoy political posts and have occasionally had my eyes opened to a new way of seeing an issue with the help of other VRCC members. I try to assume I can learn something from every individual. When you tell yourself no one can change your mind or you can't learn anything from certain individuals then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

That being said I have to agree that some "bird like creature" high jacked this thread and turned it political which I don't think was the intent of the original poster. When you do this you take away the ability of those who don't want to read political threads to avoid them. Also, you brought in people by name as you turned it into a political thread. Perhaps people who don't want anything to do with political threads.

As someone who’s as passionate about freedom as you are about socialism I well understand your need to politicize this thread, I just don’t think it was the right thing to do.  No amount of rules can teach respect. It's just something you either understand, or you don't.

Happy New Year everyone!

SE,

I'm afraid of the government getting their hands on healthcare because I recieve government health-care, and I'm aware of how poorly they manage it. Similarly, I'm aware of how poorly they manage EVERYTHING. Sometimes being a government worker can give you some insight into those things..

I am scared of the Government taking control of healthcare also, have you seen the package they are about to stick us wih. It won't do a thing to stop the rising cost but will raise our taxes most likely. With that said the private companies have not done anything to control cost or provide service to all citizens. I happen to think healthcare is to important to allow greedy companies without any compassion for working people to do as they see fit.

Not sure what the answer is but I still don't think we have found it, I know one thing there are plenty of hard working government employees who do what they can everyday even if the leadership is weak.

Strong Eagle,
Constitutionally, National defense is the FEDERAL government's responsibility (and should be its most urgent priority).  Further, the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Almost everyone on your list works either in National defense or in state or local government.  So, once again you argument doesn't hold water.  Speaking from my point of view, the conservative stance is to limit the expansion of FEDERAL gov't, which is what the framers of the constitution intended.

BTW, the post office is a quasi-government agency (controlled by, but not funded by).  It has not received government funding since about 1986.

I didn’t make the list!!!

I’m must be just at the bottom of the list, the sorry sap that loses 40% of his paycheck to support all those socialist programs that SE believes will make America a more enjoyable socialist country.

Can’t wait until those people that are capable of working but chose not to get free health care.

When I read that list I think of all the people that served in the military, and later took on government jobs.  I can not, ever in my life, tell them enough how appreciative I am for their service to our country.

I know that people like “Nitrojunkie” who works with special needs children do a job that I am not qualified for.  Nor have the patients for.  I think of policemen, putting their lives in danger, every day.  I never think of them as “sucking on the government tit”.  I think of them giving to the public good.

Maybe he did mean well, but when you start off with pure sarcasm then you’ve got to accept what you get.

In all fairness I think that SE meant well. He made a point.

I believe that he was pointing out that although we don't want government intervention in our lives,  it still is responsible directly or indirectly for the funds that employ the armed forces and the people and businesses involved in maintaining the Constitution's 'common defense' and 'general welfare' of this country.

Having said that, the problem that I have is a Congress that presently believes too much in "Profiles of Courage" and 'sweetheart deals' and not enough in representing the will of the People of the United States.

As one Wayne said of the other Wayne....I also feel he meant well. The beginning was definitely tongue-in-cheek, and I think he did it for the pure pleasure of seeing the reactions. SE knows full well how he triggers responses on this board, my guess is he did it simply because it's expected of him by so many...nothing more. But, I also believe his comments that followed were an honest statement of how he feels.

By the way SE(Wayne #2 in this case), I closed out my less than illustrous career as a state gov't. worker of 30 years. For about ten of those years, I worked as an investigator/auditor on a federally funded program, working in conjunction with the Fed. Highway Commission and the IRS. Guess I hit both sides of a much depleted coin.  Wink  If nothing else, during those ten years I learned the Russian Mafia makes the Sicilian boys look like Cub Scouts.

Good or bad, like it or not, I think he hijacked the thread to politicize a great thread. And btw SE, I know how you think, it shows here on this board with your words.

lol..Stormrider, SE didn't hijack anybodies thread - HE STARTED A BRAND NEW THREAD!  To hijack a thread is to post items within a thread that take the discussion in a different direction than the originator intended. Which, by the way, is exactly what you are doing.....

Happy New Year to ALL!
As always your wrong again.  2funny Sorry I had to say it before someone else did.  Grin SE responded the stated post under 'whats your job' thread started a day or 2 ago. Not sure how this one got separated.

Since I'm here anyway, I did not see anything political in what he said. But then again I don't look for it either.  Undecided

Stand corrected, haven't been following it.  As always, you're right again.
Now don't tell me that, it'll go right to my head!  Grin

Thanks fudgie. However, the original thread was "What's your job". Not "look at me pat everybody on the back that works for or has worked for the government" and then bashes those that are opposed to the empire that the government has become. Nothing personal on my part to the workers, it's the leaders, lobbyists, bankers with their hands in our pockets that I've got problems with.

BTW, forgot to include under What's your job? 22 years as a volunteer firefighter, 15 as a captain and instructor. 20 years as a volunteer in disaster relief, first with the Red Cross and now with the Judson Baptist Association. Also, 33 years as a Royal Ambassador leader and Adult Campcraft Instructor. All as a volunteer. I have taken hundreds of boys camping and teaching them about God's creation and helping them develop a Christian world view. Currently a delegate to the Southern National Congress and an active member of the League of the South. So, what's my job? Depends on which hat I have on at the time.

Why do we keep falling into the SE trap? We all know that he likes to light the fire and see how far it spreads. He's a very egotistical person and he gets off seeing everyone talk about him. He can't even complement people without it being backhanded. I'm sure he would be different in person if he had to actually face the person he was talking to. You notice he hasn't chimed in since he started it?
