This has been discussed a few times before, but,,,

For those that have been on it recently, how is it ?

I may end up pulling a trailer south so will be in no hurry and was thinking about taking that route. Its been quite awhile since we've been on it because of its condition and all the detours.

I'd kinda like to see the museum, its been a long time.

I always ask at the booths when entering.  YOU DO NOT WANT TO RIDE ON FRESH CHIP AND SEAL. (which is how they fix it)

Some areas of the Parkway are outside mobile and WiFi reception. Download the free Blue Ridge Parkway – Travel Planner App.   https://www.blueridgeparkway.org/brp-travel-planner-app/

Blue Ridge Parkway road closure information is available on the National Park Service website on a detailed list of Parkway sections, noting whether they are closed, open or ungated. That list, which is updated daily, can be found here.  https://www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/roadclosures.htm

Thank you, good info.

I should have mentioned we'll be driving not riding. The old car and bike may be in a trailer. If I don't sell the bike I may trike it when I get down there. [ Is that an indication of old age ?]

People drive like their nutz in Florida though. Cars sold in that state must not come with turn signals or rear view mirrors.

I saw a bunch of cars down there that didn't seem to have drivers.  Tuned out they did, but they had to look out the windshield under the steering wheel.

YOU DO NOT WANT TO RIDE ON FRESH CHIP AND SEAL.

It was two inch deep loose pea gravel for 15 miles at Roanoke when
Inzane was there. Practically everyone avoided that part of it. Me and
Stanley Steamer thought it was like surfing  cooldude ...

There is a long term closure in the Roanoke area:

If you're in the cage you may disregard the warning about riding on fresh chip and seal.

Yes regarding driving safety.

But prepare to spend time scrubbing the hot (now dry) tar and crud off your cage.

It may not be too bad if it's days old, but it's real bad when it's hours old (in hot sun).
