Confused about the clutch m/c pushrod.

That short little thing that goes into(guzinta) the handle. I'm rebuilding the two m/c up front on the old bike and that rod on my clutch has a little rubber sleeve in the center section...like an o-ring but flat and split. When looking up replacements online I see the exact same rod(Honda OEM part) but none with that little rubber doodad. The rebuild kits don't come with it so I'm wondering if it's needed. What's your experience, I don't recall that being present in the past but the last rebuild wasn't exactly yesterday. When I look at the exploded picture of the m/c parts I can't tell if it's on there or not, it doesn't show a separate p/n.

It won’t work without the oil seal on the main piston and it’s a pain to get it on there

I know that, that's not what I'm talking about...and yes, it is a pain to get that seal on.
I'm talking about item #1 in the parts breakdown. Mine has a damaged seal in that center section but nowhere do I find a replacement and I don't recall ever seeing that push rod with a seal in that area.

Aha...the boot wasn't intact when I disassembled the m/c. I'll bet the top of the that boot simply tore off and remained in the groove, giving the appearance of having a seal installed there. Both m/c's were in such bad shape I had to put them in the hot sonic bath for nearly an hour before I could even take them apart. The clutch had a good tablespoon of gel in the bottom, the brake side was a bit better but not by much. I'm guessing the calipers are next, when it comes time for someone else to take the old bike I want it to be right.
