Given all the alleged thousand cancer risks (esp in CA), one wonders if the threat is real or memorex.
I understand that they should be cleaned and sanitized periodically.

Yes, the cleaning is important if for no other reason than potential mold. The lady I spoke with asked if I ever cleaned my CPAP with ionized oxygen and/or something else (sorry, I don't remember what it was). The directions for my unit specifically says use mild soap and water. So, that's what I do.
They don't have an approved "fix" yet but, I suspect that when it's all said and done there will be a new CPAP sitting on my bedside table.
Obviously, this assumes I live long enough to use it.
