Well I got finally this thing "finished " and rideable... Its been off the road so long I forgot how good it is...
Thanks all who put up with my whacked bananas OCD questions. - Then there's always something else to do but I'm good for now. In the someday column, get a smaller pillion seat built, and address the suspension more, even though I put .90 straight rate springs in the front, and since my horn setup bombed, figure out what plan B for that is.

Cheers all  cooldude

Looks good.  cooldude

My next F6 build is going to be something along those lines, unless a near-stock, low mileage black I/S beats it into the garage.

Beautiful bike. I will be following in your footsteps. I pick up my Craigslist 13,000 mile special on Wednesday. Have seat, tires, and box of parts building up in my living room. I hope it looks as good as yours when spring arrives. Prepare for my questions and challenges.

Nice, very sharp bike, lots of work. One comment, you have to get rid of that early style seat  Grin

Looks good ! I like the red anodized bolts and banjos you used up front. I think I would like to carry it on thru the back. Not over do it, or anything. Like you did, with maybe the two on the grab rail, lower shock bolt, and something in the center area. It looks good. Those are just my thoughts.

Thanks for the ideas!

Looks great. I have a standard and without my National Cycle deflector screen the wind blast would be brutal. A fly screen on your bike would be cool and functional.

Challenges it definately was. I have worked on mostly sporting type bikes and this was the first time I went crazy with a chrome and polish everything job. On chrome, anything that was/is an interface to another part is a problem to fit, the extra material thickness is a PIA. Threads need to be chased, bearing surfaces need to be sanded to fit, the rear brake plate was a huge PIA. Expect to hand fit everything to get it to go together.....

So you chromed the wheel, rotors, and even the calipers for the wheels. Awesome!

Wheels, calipers, rear brake plate are chrome. Rotors, forks, triples are polished.

Ron, I have enjoyed all your commentary on my whackjob restomod journey.

Thanks  cooldude

cooldude Same color as mine the wheels and forks and stuff look great.I had my forks chromed about 6 years ago and I think the guy that did mine took a shortcut and didn't copper plate them first. Maybe aluminum doesn't need copper plate first,I'm not sure. The forks started to peal so I had them stripped and polished. The polished forks take work to keep up. I wish I still had the chrome forks, and the wheels are alot of work polishing also.

Aluminum absolutely needs to be triple-chromed in order for the chrome to stick, and stay stuck. First copper, then nickel and lastly, chrome.

As far as the forks themselves go, I'd try to find a set of Kewlmetal covers or the ones used on a VTX1800N's lower fork legs. A similar chromed steel upper cover could be fabricated if desired.

Great looking machine! I had a super glide years ago that I had a lot of the aluminum polished. It wasn't that big of a deal to keep it looking good.

Mello dude,
Just curious, with plated rotors doesn't the application of the brakes scratch the chromium? I have yet to see rotors that weren't shall we say most groovy.

Rotors are/were polished.... as I ride it more the bling is fading away.... I knew it would but it was fun to show off for awhile....  Smiley

So some thoughts on this bike after not being on it for 5ish years....
- I keep forgetting about the petcock on/off... turn it on when starting out, turn off at the end...
- Just sometime I need to keep up on, the turn signal indicator isnt all the that bright and sometimes I forget to shut off.... yeah thats on me for a kick in the backside....
- I keep reaching for a 6th gear... Its a torque monster of a motor, but at 45-50 mph, feels like another gear is needed, even though it only taching 2200 rpm...
- It is kind buzzy above 3k rpm, feels double that....
- I did a fantastic job on the brake rebuild especially the fronts,  its better than factory with the Spiegler brake lines, plus the clutch. Need to find adjustable levers that I like. (I bought GW levers, but didnt like and sold them.)
-  I went out on my Traxxion/Penske modified suspension VFR that was also down for work 6ish months, and then back on the Valk.... Ok, for real, the Valk suspension sucks...... a fix in the future...

Still the bike is a joy to cruise on..... so glad its done!

Cheers all  cooldude

Would you know the manufacturer of the "Harley Dennis Kirk curved licence plate chrome thingy..."

Was it a direct install, or did you have to modify?

Interested in getting one, I would just like the same one knowing that it works on the Valkyrie.

I had a RaceTech shop do my forks. Freakin wonderful. My shocks were shot when I bought the bike and I only rode 5 miles before rebuilding it. I must say, I don’t feel any negatives about the RadeTech shocks except the price.
