My grandson works at UPS.  He has been having some issues with sharp objects and his hands getting some cuts.

I do not know how safety conscious UPS is and have not asked but my wife has suggested we might purchase him a special pair of gloves for Christmas.  He is allergic to latex and neoprene.

Kevlar comes to mind since that is what we used at work (not me I just watched).

Anyone have any specific suggestions for some gloves that would not have latex or neoprene touching the skin and would provide some protection from sharp objects.  Would be nice if they were comfortable also.

Thanks.

There are a lot of gloves protecting from puncture or stab, in the police line.

Really, they are puncture/stab resistant, not proof.

The problem is, gloves are one of those things that need tried on for fit and function (just like all footwear, and hats/helmets).   IMHO, sizing for all things sold today is worse than ever before.

I use hiking low quarters for most outdoor work (until it gets cold).  I shop around on line (for reviews), but trying to buy a pair of shoes/boots on line is a pure crap shoot.

The Merrell Moabs were universally loved.  My pair are about all used up.  I go on line, and the Moab IIs are almost universally hated.

Today, if you find a pair of shoes or boots or pants or anything you really like, you need to buy a lifetime supply right away.  Next year, the new model will be cheaper quality, not fit and suck.

Carhartt is a Chinese shadow of it's former self.

Rant over.

Thanks guys.  Having a look.

And Jess, I was not aware the Carhart had gone Chinese on us....  The pair of coveralls (insulated) I like best and work the best are Carhart but probably 10 years old.  Was going to try to get another pair this spring/summer.

I started out wearing the Carhartt Detroit jackets working in the steel mills at 18.  My last one is threadbare and the zipper gave out.  Can't get another one at all (they sell one called the Detroit, but it is not a Detroit).

Eddie Bower started out like LL Bean as top quality outerwear.  They turned into yuppie wear.  So has Carhartt (the only America made things they sell anymore is like Tshirts and socks).

Take good care of those coveralls.

You have to remember some gloves will not grab cardboard, they slip. The mechanics gloves are good but not for boxes, the old reliable calf skin are pretty good, but I found this article for you and have tried some of the brands. Go to Home Depot and try some of the gloves on boxes and see how they hold. I have a pair of gauntlet gloves that are cow hide that I use for thorn bushes and they are great and dont easily get pierced. The cow hide gloves I bought at Home depot actually feel like a good pair of driving gloves and do stop most major problems and also are good for cardboard.

7 Best Gloves for Handling Cardboard Boxes 2021-2022

Our hands will take the beating of handling boxes at work. This is the reason why workers wear protective equipment, including the best gloves for handling cardboard boxes. For this purpose, I personally recommend the Ironclad Gloves. It’s made with a package handling grip, so regardless if you’re working for FedEx, USPS, UPS, and other shipping companies, this glove will protect your hands.

Maxiflex, Gorilla Grip, and DEX FIT are the brands that produce excellent hand protection products designed with employees of all types in mind; they make sure you never have to worry about slipping or getting dirt into your fingers ever again!

amazon has all kinds of wire mesh fishing gloves under 20 bucks,  but not so sure how slippery handling boxes would be with them?

I was introduced to level 5 gloves several years ago when I purchased some large pieces of sheet metal. The gentleman that was helping load it handed me a pair of gloves before we loaded. He said to me, never touch sheet metal with out these on your hands or you will need a very good surgeon.

They had boxes of level 5 gloves on the shelf, a requirement in there shop. I was given 2 pairs. I keep pairs on hand.

Truly appreciate all the information.  Lots of stuff I did not know.  Still looking.  The issue with him being allergic to neoprene and latex compounds what can be selected.

On option, which I am using for general work around the yard/house, ect are full leather gloves.  Light weight, flexible but sort of tough.  Would not withstand a sharp knife but....

Still looking and comparing and considering.

I got these at Costco, and they are wonderful at saving my hands in outdoor work.  If I'm not too abusive, one pair can last for a month or two.  Great grip.  Not specifically designed to avoid cuts, but months of hard labor in yard work and no injury for me.

The latex rubber is on the outside (palm side) of the glove, not the inside.
