While I agree this weekend offered some of the closest games I can remember and the Chiefs/Bills game was the most well coached and competitive games I have ever seen, I don't like the NFL rule that says the first team to score wins.   While I admit to being a Chiefs fan and am very happy they won, I really think for it to have been fair, the Bills should have received a kick off and give one chance to score/four downs to score.

But, that's not the rule and the Chiefs won so, I'm not gonna gripe too much.  Wink

Agree both were exciting, fun games.  There were several times I was happy I wasn't holding a plate of nachos or a bladder buster, there would have been a big mess in the living room!

If the Chiefs kicked a FG the Bills would have (by rule) gotten their chance. The complainers are just crying in their beer. I think the current rule should be done away with. First score is first score (even a FG or a safety). Points are points. It doesn’t need to seem fair to everyone

I suppose but, the way this ended, will forever taint the victory IMHO.

What I do find inspirational is this.

Down 3 points, 70+ yards from the end zone, 13 seconds left on the clock and Andy Reed says to Patrick Mahomes,

“When it’s grim, be the grim reaper.”

Those words will echo in the minds of Chiefs fans forever.

Wow, what a game!

I may be mis-remembering but didn’t overtime used to consist of a fifth quarter?  Maybe instead of a coin toss at overtime have a ball launching cannon fire a pass at two receivers on the 50 and let them fight for it until one has possession   Evil (kidding of course) but it would be exciting.

I'd rather see the cheerleaders do that.  Wink

All four playoff games this weekend were won on the last play of the game.    Smiley
That's pretty cool.

Pro or college (and college does it), I think both teams aught to get the ball at least once in overtime.  Whether a field goal or TD on first possession (or not).

Otherwise it makes the coin toss possibly more important than the game.  As overtime is now, in college coin toss, everyone defers.  In pro coin toss, everyone takes the ball.   The coin should never decide the game.

The pro's get a crap ton of money, and if they have to play longer than usual to win a game, that's tough titty.

Overtime is, like the regular game time, for a specific period of time. That total time period should be played out just like the regular game time, just like was stated...a fifth quarter only shorter. That gives both teams an equal chance at scoring. If still tied at the end of OT, have a "kick-off" competition of at least 50 yards, or something equally challenging. If both make it, move it back five yards each time until one misses. Do you want a game of skill or luck?  Wink

I do agree with that both teams get a chance in overtime whether field goal or TD scored whomever got the ball 1st in OT.  If both teams score a TD, then each team yet again gets a chance to score until one wins.  If 1st OT time runs out tied,  then play a 2nd OT and then make it next score of any kind wins.

Sorta bummer for Bills not getting a 2nd chance to score in OT if you ask me.  Both teams offensively were unstoppable.

Chiefs/Bills that last 2 minutes in the 4th quarter were enough to raise this old guys blood pressure couple points or so!  Roll Eyes And fer once I sorta agree with the guys in the booth-the Bills defensive unit looked and acted tired! BUT That GAME was I M O the Way Football should be played even with some of the nonsense panty waist "rules" currently in effect. I also Know with the sheer speed of the pros calls Will be MISSED. Chiefs be 1 WIN away from The SUPERBOWL! GO CHIEFS!  cooldude And again I M O the Bills have NOTHING to be ashamed of. Next year Chiefs may have to travel to Buffalo! 2 Young quarterbacks doing what they Do and Doing it WELL! RIDE SAFE.

Buffalo played as good a game as the Chiefs - the Chiefs were just luckier  on the coin toss for OT.

that is true, but not sure if mentioned, but Tony Romo made a great point it should not have come to OT anyways.  With 13 seconds left,  the Bills kicking off should have kicked it 15-20 yards shy of the end zone either forcing the Chiefs to pick up the ball running it back or the Bills touching the ball, both running about 4 to 6 seconds off the clock leaving ONLY about 7 seconds vs. 13 seconds left on the clock for the Chiefs to kick a field goal or score a TD.  Almost nearly impossible (although with the Chiefs who knows) with 1-2 plays to go 50 yards in field goal range  vs. leaving 13 seconds on the clock running 3 plays in that time.    Then again,  that 45 yard Chiefs field goal looked like it would have been good from 65 yards.

Skill or luck?  Through the game it's both.  Tyrann Matthieu's injury made the Chief's defense a slightly different team.  The three missed kicks from a most skilled kicker allowed the Bills to catch up.  The kick from that same kicker took the game into overtime.

Skill or luck?  Through the entire game it's both in varying degrees.

I’ve seen a lot of games in my time. This one might have been the best. I’d rate it at 95% skill, 5% luck for both teams. It was a shame that the Bill’s didn’t get an offensive possession in OT. But all they needed to do was hold them to a field goal.

OR a squib kick with 13 seconds left on the clock in the 4th quarter. But they did't and the Chiefs won!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Pretty much what it seemed.  I was saying just before the coin toss, the team that gets the ball first wins it.
