Sometimes ya just gotta go...

A Pint Too Much...

In the back of my mind, I'd known better, but... I'd spotted it just sitting there so invitingly, so seductively, and I'd simply had to have some. I could have made adjustments in other ways, of course, and I'd probably have been OK, but... I didn't. I don't often go over the line this way; however, ... I did have an explanation, so... Anytime we make an excuse or offer an alibi, that should cancel out any negative consequences, right? Or does that only apply to politics?

Nope, I'd gone ahead and ordered that Double Sourdough Melt plus an order of krinkle fries like I'd gone into Culver’s to do... and then that pint of Butter Pecan caught my eye; so, I got it too on top of all of that other. Yeah, I was reminded of that little judgmental error a couple of times later during the night that followed...

Our girl had been on a mission lately, see. She'd effortlessly and boo-boo-free transported her rider wannabe partner for what for us had been a rather rigorous run from southernmost Texas to Payson, AZ. Sure, we'd taken four days to make that stretch, and for many of our more youthful and/or robust riders, what we'd just done probably seems rather tame. I assure you it was pretty strenuous for us, particularly those first two days!

So, it struck this intemperate diner that a modest celebratory experience would be entirely appropriate. I proceeded to pursue such a course, even though ordinarily the call made would not have been... Lesson relearned, and my guess is this faux pas will not be repeated... for several days, anyway.

That ride did not start out being anything like a stretch. Nope, the closer we'd come to the end of our stay in Brownsville, TX, the less inviting the increasingly ominous weather forecast had become. When departure was finally forced upon us, we loaded up and rode a whopping thirty miles or so to a motel in Harlingen and laid over a couple more days. Once that spat of moisture passed, the earnest portion of the ride joyously began...

Naturally, I’d been undecided where we might head… We still had some time to play around with, and our girl seemed in really good shape for almost anything, so… northwest instead of northeast the ‘plan’ became… Unsure where we might eventually land, but the absence of anything pulling us one way or the other… oh you know…

It sure felt absolutely wonderful to be back out strutting with our girl! We'd been cooped up all together for nearly a month, and I made a mental note that a period that long might not be worth repeating anytime soon. Not to worry, however, that was now behind us and much riding lay ahead...

By the time we'd reached Payson, though, I was starting to look upon a stay of a couple of days as perhaps not such a bad thing after all. Moisture and cold temps were bearing down on that ‘above the rim’ locale, however, so no dawdling, at least not yet. We cruised down towards Deming, NM, for maybe a couple of days of R&R... However... It was more than brisk the day we’d begun our retreat from the high country, and a surprisingly strong wind had been either in our face or on our broadside the entire way.

By the time we'd arrived in Safford, AZ, I'd become quite weary of all the bouncing around, buffeting, and pummeling, so thoughts of calling it an early evening had already started to bubble-up to the conscious level. Then, I spotted it... Huge dust clouds up ahead towards Lordsburg! That area is famous for dust storms, and we'd even been caught in two in that general area before ourselves! “That's it!”

The motel I'd selected instead of the one I'd previously used didn't have Wi-Fi that I could access, so our stay there would also be brief! Still cold the following morning, and the wind had in fact eased, but only modestly. This time, at least, it was at our backs! Back to Deming, after stopping in Lordsburg for gas and a sandwich...

At check in I inquired if they had had a dust storm the day before, and the very nice lady said, "Oh yeah!" A frequent stopping place for us where the Lazy Lizard Lounge awaits weary travelers... I just may have to check that out again this time... Perhaps I’ll even indulge in a ‘pint’ of another sort this time...

BPIC is always tempting.   I try to avoid that section of both the menu and that aisle at the grocery store.  Lord knows, if I see it, it's coming home with me.   uglystupid2
The Lazy Lizard Juice is most likely more than I can handle.

Time flies when you're having fun Bruce.  Seems like only yesterday you were talking about 19 days and a defunct coffee pot.  Maybe you could make use of some of those extra masks and tackle that dust storm.  We were staying in Hurricane Ut in an RV park with the toyhauler and bikes way back when.  I decided to ride to Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam and had to lean into the wind the whole way there and back.  I can sympathize with you on that subject.

Dust Storms and pints of ice cream, oh my

Glad you have arrived at a calmer locale for the moment

We have been down in Naples this week,  no wind and about 80 with sunshine

Could get used to this but it frankly does not appear to be chock full of 2 wheel travelers

Great story Bruce!
I have made a lot of judgmental errors in my life, ….enough that I probably would not even notice them anymore if it was not for the fact that, as the years pile up on this old carcass, the lessons get more painful.  This old carcass does not care one bit about excuses or alibis!  The lesson is never lessened by those!

Thanks for the good read!

My dad was partial to ice cream Friday nights watching the tube and it quite a bit more than a pint!  Huh?

We safely arrived in Deming and took a room for two nights... I wasn't worried about the effects of a visit to the Lazy Lizard, but I was concerned about the forecast! As I'd really hoped it would, the wind didn't cooperate or even modestly abate, so... I took the easier path of simply laying over... May even go for a third evening if things don't improve!

Poor ALI had to sleep without her cover due to those spanking blows! One mental image of this aging scooterizer parasailing across the parking lot was all it took to produce that decision. Nope, I could not see any way I'd be able to put her cover on single-handed with winds gusting to 45MPH. Yep, another nearby dust storm, too, so our girl gained a new grungy layer on top of the already present dust, mud, and bugs... We just may have to visit the wash station at the Fling in Hattiesburg... I'm sure gonna miss a certain rider who recently became a soldier!

This also happened to me in Turkey.  And their beer is about the same alcohol content as wine and makes you foolish quicker than normal.  Tastes great though.   Smiley
