Some times I "write" songs while riding. I go good places on my rides,
my songs don't often go anywhere :-) ...

I was writing a song "Gone To Far", the second verse is:

They're tearing down
the statues of Robert E. Lee
Trying to forget the Alamo
and greening up energy
When the wind don't blow
and the sun don't shine
I'm gonna wanna be running gas in mine
We've gone too far
and it's plain to see

I was just reading this article:

Energy Vault is one of many companies trying to store renewable
energy to provide power when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind
doesn’t blow. The company uses surplus renewable energy to lift
30-metric-ton blocks in what look like elevator shafts, then lowers
them when needed to produce energy.

We have "pumped hydro storage" here in the Upstate of SC. Duke
Power pumps water out of lake Jocassee at night using excess hydro
power and then runs it out during the day to create power when it
is needed. Works real well, has been for decades...

Oss, think they are working on it on a very small scale.  BUT there are times when the tide changes for in to out.   Also problems with salt and running wires.

Its been an idea that's been around for a while (at least 30 or so years could not find a date on the link article below).

Problems, just like wind, damage to wildlife.  Slow down the tide so they don't happen any more, etc, etc.

Funny thing is, we can generate all the energy we need today and maybe for the next 100 years using nuclear.  First fission and then fusion.

Fusion is the best, less waste and we will need fusion or fission, for space travel.  Using chemicals to get to Mars means you have to have chemicals to get back... Lots of chemicals.

One "blessing" about living in the Great Plains (aka "flyover country") - the only time the wind stops is when a front goes through.... for about 10-30 minutes.
