Leaving the six chrome air tubes. Is there exhaust pressure in these tubes. May the short rubber hoses be inserted with a suitable plug.
Thanks

yes. from manual

"Fresh air is drawn into the exhaust port whenever there is a negative pressure pulse in the exhaust
system.
This model has the pulse secondary air injection (PAIR) control valve and PAlR check valves. PAlR check valve prevents
reverse air flow through the system"

I've had my heads off and ported/polished. there actually is kinda of a mild scoop into the exhaust flow of the exhaust port forcing some exhaust into the tubes.

Fyi, members have plugged the air holes with inexpensive freeze plugs if cost is what's keeping you from eliminating the chrome tubes. I don't recollect the size of the plugs though. I used these xF6 plugs. They're no longer available. The two bottom air holes can be sealed by JB welding the bolt bracket after snipping off the chrome tube from the bolt bracket. Freeze plugs aren't as good since you can't keep an eye on them under there. Freeze plugs are friction fitted, have taper.

The lower one under the heads.

Click on it to blow up, and you can see that it's already plugged, with carbon. Like mentioned, remove the tube from the mount, clean, and epoxy fill to make it a plug. Some kind of high temp gasket, and you're good to go.

(i did the shinny smog in the end)

Just a curiosity about the freeze plugs......I have never used before....so do you just hammer in place or how do you install? (I already did the shiny smog kit)

Another thing...I could laser cut cover plates to ditch the tubes if that is wanted.....easy job....Smiley

A socket that fits very loose in the plug, a short extension, and drive it in with a hammer.

The plate is what you get with the kit, I recall a rectangular plate with 2 holes, so to be able to make your own would be great, gasket still needed.

Thank you to all. Im gonna remove the PAIR valve, leave the two reed manifolds and plug the one large tube on each. My thought is if there is any back exhaust them the reeds will stop them. This will make room for a Dan-Mark elec. fuel shut off/on.
