Loving my Valkyrie but would like to quiet down the drone at certain rpm’s. This is a truck stack exhaust installed by previous, previous owner.  The piggies have been cut, rear baffle is not drilled but no front baffle. I was hoping this may be a Mark T exhaust that someone removed the glass pack from and I can simply contact him to get a replacement?

From searching the forums, droning can be helped by extending the piggies beyond the pipe. Is that my best option since it’s cheap?

Thanks

That looks like a silencer sold by MarkT, fully removeable. I used a set in my exhaust for years before selling the bike. Had mine mounted deeper inside and would have been able to extend the piggies if needed without having them protrude beyond the end of the stack.

The silencer you have is part of the OEM muffler, Just like John said above, It looks like the glasspack is missing.

The silencer may be from me, though I usually do not leave the piggy stubs on, and it looks like the inlet end has had the land skinned - I don't do that.  I don't think I made the pipe as the inner view does not show the OEM original can which the PO would have had to cut off, while it looks like I can see the inner heads of carriage bolts which is the method used to attach the stack & exhaust to the rear hanger, from Lamonster's "Easy Glasspack Mod".  Which was copied and produced by Ernie Schuster until he passed a few years ago.  If that's what it is, what looks like a header collector at the fwd end will be a IPT water pipe reducer with threads.  If you can use a mirror or probe-camera to see that, it may be possible to weld a galvanized nipple onto a glasspack and screw it on - though the threads are likely unusable.   But if you want to salvage this exhaust, a better idea would be to slip the stack off the stub of the header collector so you can access the reducer and WELD a glasspack there.  Be very careful to get it aligned right as you need to slip the stack back on and have it be straight.  Be advised your finished exhaust won't be very strong as there is nothing but friction holding the stack over the OEM collector stub.  Maybe you could have the welder weld the stack to it, on the backside where the weld and discolored chrome won't show.

Alternatively, you could buy a bunch of SS wool "muffler pack" from Amazon, wad it up and stuff it in there, and put the silencer back in.  That will quiet it down.

Of course you can avoid all this by having me make a custom exhaust for you. It will be more versatile and much stronger.  Here's a link to read about that.  Been doing this full time since '99. http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Valk_Products/M2W_Exhaust__System/m2w_exhaust__system.html

Thanks for the great replies!  I think I will live with the noise for now and save up for a MarkT setup. I just added some copper pipe piggie extensions as it was easy and cheap.  Didn’t make much difference but slightly better at 65mph, which is about my normal cruising speed.  Oddly, installing a smaller windshield made the biggest difference with the droning. The huge Rifle screen was like an amphitheater around my head. Before that the drone was unbearable.
